The Bast Weekly Blast

Week of September 28, 2015

3rd Grade Rocks!!

We have had a fantastic week in third grade!!

Students will be bringing home their red, Warrior folder each night. In the pocket on the back cover, you will find their behavior chart and homework calendar. Students should be writing down their homework each day and any assignments they need to finish should be in the "Return to School" pocket inside the folder.

Students will bring home their Math Workbooks any time they have Math homework. We use these workbooks every day, so please make sure they are bringing them back each day.

Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have. I look foward to teaming with you to help your child have an amazing year in 3rd grade.

Reading Counts!!

We have had a GREAT start to the Reading Counts Program!! We have many friends taking tests and have had one friend meet the first goal of 50 points. Please let me know if you are in need of your child's password at home, and I will email it to you!

I am looking forward to seeing this program help our friends grow as readers! We will be setting goals for Reading Counts as well. Tests can be taken at home or at school.

My hope is that every student is taking 2-3 tests each week, as they are finishing books. They may also take tests over our read aloud books from class.

I am loving seeing all the creativity!! Keep up the great work!

The board will have a Reading column, Math column, & Spelling column. Students will need to choose one activity from each column to complete each week. The choices must be in a line across, down, or diagnally. This way, students are still getting a choice in how they are practicing the skills, but still getting the needed practice.

If an activity is done on the computer, you are more than welcome to email it to me, rather than print it out. Also, if it is an activity without paper and pencil, you can just sign the square saying the activity was completed.

Animal Book Report Project

We are beginning our Non-fiction Unit and with that comes a fun book report to help students get to know their non-fiction texts even better! Students will be bringing home instructions (with an example), a grading rubric, and a book on their animal on Tuesday, September 29th.

Students will have the ENTIRE month of October to complete the book report. It will be counted as a reading grade for second quarter.

I am encouraging students to take their time and do their very best work, as other students will be learning from their posters.

Posters will be due on Friday, October 30th, but may be brought in any time, once completed.

WOW Warrior of the Week:

Attitude of the Month: Integrity

Integrity is having a sense of fairness and honesty with respect to yourself and others. It is doing what is right, even when no one is looking.

Ms. Christy Bast

This is my fifth year teaching; my first year in Third Grade. I live in O'fallon, and I have a six-year old Boxer named Sophie. I love to read, write, and draw. I also like to go hiking, take Sophie to the dog park or on a walk, and I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Sophie and I are lucky to share our lives with Anabelle (8), William (6), and Charlotte (4) and their dad. We like to spend our family times exploring parks, swimming, watching movies, creating art projects, and attending lots of extracurricular events. Anabelle loves Cheer and is looking forward to joining the Sign Language club this year. William is a soccer star in the making. He is training to be a goalie!! Charlotte is our little dancer. She has some sassy little dance moves she loves to show off. All in all, we keep ourselves busy!!

I am pleased to be your child's teacher this year. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
