Important Dates Next Week!
Classrooms will be holding their Fall Fests next week. The days and times will be shared by your child's homeroom teacher. If you are planning on attending the Fall Fest, please let your child's teacher know and give yourself enough time to check in at the office. We will need a state issued ID so we can print a visitor's badge for you to wear while in the building.
Wednesday, October 30th is an Early Release Day. All 5K-5th grade students are dismissed at 1:40 PM. (4K has their regular dismissal time.) If your child rides the bus, bus routes will run beginning at 1:40 and after school care is available through the Park and Rec Cool School program for students who are registered.
There is no school on Thursday, October 31st (Professional Development Day for teachers) and Friday, November 1st.
Principal's Note - Collaboration
Last week, I mentioned a little bit about the work we are doing to improve teaching and learning here at Hillcrest. This week, I'd like to give a little more detail about what we mean by collaboration.
Our teacher teams work closely TOGETHER to serve all students. In addition to our classroom teachers, we have special education, specialists, therapists, coaches and students services teachers who all wrap around your children.
Throughout the year, we meet on a regular basis to talk about student data and plan learning experiences that will support students in their next steps for learning. Teacher teams meet across grade levels, across subject areas and across the building to accomplish this work.
We also all learn together. This year, we are studying the book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. In our reading and discussions, we are reflecting on the question: How do we adjust our practice (both classroom and building) and mindsets to accelerate learning for all students?
You really have a talented, caring group of professionals behind your child. Teachers all make it their mission to serve across our building and across our district. When everyone works together, collaborating to lift each student, we can achieve so much!
