Important Dates Next Week!

Classrooms will be holding their Fall Fests next week. The days and times will be shared by your child's homeroom teacher. If you are planning on attending the Fall Fest, please let your child's teacher know and give yourself enough time to check in at the office. We will need a state issued ID so we can print a visitor's badge for you to wear while in the building.

Wednesday, October 30th is an Early Release Day. All 5K-5th grade students are dismissed at 1:40 PM. (4K has their regular dismissal time.) If your child rides the bus, bus routes will run beginning at 1:40 and after school care is available through the Park and Rec Cool School program for students who are registered.

There is no school on Thursday, October 31st (Professional Development Day for teachers) and Friday, November 1st.

Principal's Note - Collaboration

We are always trying to get better at serving all students and families.

Last week, I mentioned a little bit about the work we are doing to improve teaching and learning here at Hillcrest. This week, I'd like to give a little more detail about what we mean by collaboration.

Our teacher teams work closely TOGETHER to serve all students. In addition to our classroom teachers, we have special education, specialists, therapists, coaches and students services teachers who all wrap around your children.

Throughout the year, we meet on a regular basis to talk about student data and plan learning experiences that will support students in their next steps for learning. Teacher teams meet across grade levels, across subject areas and across the building to accomplish this work.

We also all learn together. This year, we are studying the book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. In our reading and discussions, we are reflecting on the question: How do we adjust our practice (both classroom and building) and mindsets to accelerate learning for all students?

You really have a talented, caring group of professionals behind your child. Teachers all make it their mission to serve across our building and across our district. When everyone works together, collaborating to lift each student, we can achieve so much!

4th and 5th Grade Concert - November 21st

This is a friendly reminder about our annual fourth and fifth grade concert which will be held in the Hillcrest Gym on Thursday, November 21st at 6:30 p.m. All are invited, whether or not you have a student at Hillcrest! The title of our concert is “Building Hope” The dress rehearsal will be earlier in the day at 9:30 a.m. Parents or relatives who are not able to attend the evening concert are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal. It is important that all fourth and fifth grade students attend the evening concert. You will not want to miss it! HERE is a note from Mrs. Runingen with additional reminders.

Want to come over and play?

We are looking for volunteers who want to come and support our lunch recess with K-5 students. If you have any open days of the week from 11:45AM-12:25PM, we would LOVE to have you join us on the playground. While you're having fun, you get to wear a super stylish orange vest and show your kids how cool you are with a basketball! In all seriousness, our goal is to have as many students engaged in play, moving and having fun, as possible. Having parents and grandparents volunteer to help with a game always gets more students excited to try it out. If you are interested, please sign up through this Sign Up Genius form. We are looking especially for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. PS - If the orange vest is a deal-breaker...you don't have to wear it.

District Curriculum Council

We are looking for a Hillcrest representative to the School District of Waukesha's Curriculum Council. This team meets three times a year to review curriculum and our curriculum process for students across the district. If you are interested in serving on this committee on behalf of Hillcrest, please email Faith at flincicu@waukesha.k12.wi.us. *Faith is serving on this committee as well!

PTO Family Directory

We have added 18 new children since last week's directory was posted. Please note, there will be updates to the directory as people fill out the form, you will need to reopen to see the updates. Also, the password is listed under the spreadsheet; but for your reference it is Hillcrest2019
