Instructional Focus in this week's pictures
With the end of MP2 and the close of the first half of the school year, we are approaching our most sustained, uninterrupted instructional time of the year, MP3. This is when the growth in our students will become most evident.
This week's blog highlights pictures of instruction. To be clear, the Sanford way is to maximize instructional time with engaging Morning Experiences every morning all the way through to engaging closing circles in the afternoon. The time in between is focused on instruction and academic progress in our students.
Student engagement: This is a morning experience in Ashley Nemo's room and she is engaged with students at the table as they use a spinner and a 100s chart
Student engagement: Rachel Swords reading to students. All student eyes on the story.
A Catherine Garnett Small group using manipulatives (math CRA) with base 10 blocks.
Examining student work: Second grade teachers meeting to review and assess student writing.
Rachel Grochowski modeling expecations for second grade Vocabulary Alley
Third graders working on Vocabulary Alley in the hallway
Second graders have read a text and are now reviewing a plot map to agree, disagree, or add information to the plot map.
Third graders in a Nikki Watson group have read a text and are referencing a graphic organizer to demonstrate comprehsion of the text
Comprehension Too,
Our grade 2-5 teachers will attend Comprehension Too PD at Sanford on January 28 at 830 and will leave with some practical activities to implement in their classroom to strengthen our students comprehension skills
Number Talks in Tammy McFarland's first grade room.
Clear Expectation: Number Talks should occur daily at Sanford in grades K-5 as part of the Math block.
Number Talks should be planned as a team at team planning.
A student in Tulsa Silver's fourth grade class was adding a leaf ( a book she read) on the class Book Pusher display.
Action Item: The first half of the school year is coming to a close. Have you updated your classroom Book Pusher display
Book Pusher displays should be active and current. This is a great time to make sure your Book Pusher display is active and current.
Non Standard measurement lesson in all of the first grade classrooms.
