AMCMS Principal's Office
What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
This week is the #HourOfCode Week across the WORLD! There will be emails coming out from the CTE department about the hour of code and what we will be doing with our students and what resources are available for students.
You may be asking yourself, why is this important? Click here to read more about the impact of the #HOC and why it is so important.
In short, coding is a language that anyone can learn to "speak". With this language anyone can build programs, apps, and website that will help them to change their world and possibly THE WORLD. This is the future that our students have ahead of them. We have a responsibility as a school system to help our students learn these skills as they grow and learn.
What can you do?
Use any of the HOC resources in your classroom that you can. Encourage students to learn to code. Technology is only going to grow. To ignore that or deny that it to bury your head in the sand and wish it weren't true. You need to embrace technology and learn how to incorporate it, for your students' sake.
For all you know you have the next Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg or Jack Dorsey sitting in your classroom... TODAY!
Just FYI -- There are kids in AMCMS that have been in a google hangout with Jack Dorsey when they were students at Oakwood.
Technology is a part of their life. How about in their learning?
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff

Academic Tip of the Week
Do you ever feel like that student are not "getting it"? Have you ever taken a moment to ask them if they understood what you expect of them? Have you allowed them to ask questions of you about what they are supposed to do for you?
Try This:
Allow students to ask questions to clarify any misunderstandings.
Sometimes we forget that students do no always know what we want from them. We also can be guilty of expecting them to just know what we expect from them because it is what we always do. If you give them the opportunity to ask clarifying questions and don't ridicule them for asking you will see they will work better for you.
SPED Tip of the Week
Don't Forger about the Help Sessions!!
Next Session THIS THURSDAY! Room 112 after school!
Wellness Tip of the Week
Squeeze here
The fleshy place between your index finger and thumb is called the hoku spot in traditional Chinese medicine. Applying firm pressure there for just 30 seconds can reduce stress and tension in your upper body. So if you start to feel overwhelmed by the holiday chaos, give your hand a squeeze and take a deep breathe.
