Happy New Year!
Reminder: Mandatory DAILY Health Screening
Student Health Screen Every Morning!
In order to implement more stringent health screening protocols (as mandated by the Wayne County Health Department), we are now expecting that a parent completes the health screener, online, for their child(ren), each day that they are to be in attendance. This is the same process that all employees in the WBSD have been completing.
This is an important requirement for the district to continue our face to face instruction. This screener is similar to the one that we have been asking you to do daily since the beginning of the year. This screener is available on an online platform through a google form application.
The screener can be made available by using the QR code below.
Or by clicking this link: https://screener.wbsdweb.com/
Please note that if you answered yes to any of the questions in the screener you will need to keep your child home and follow the guidance provided by the Wayne County Health Department.
Your help in making sure our students and staff are healthy and safe every day is appreciated.

Attendance: A Key To Your Child’s Success
Research shows a direct correlation between student’s school attendance and their performance on state tests. Instruction is based on previous learning and students with high absenteeism are missing the foundation on which to build new skills.
Being late for school hurts a child’s learning, too. A student who is 10 minutes late every day will miss approximately 30 hours of instruction during the year. In addition, they miss the early morning routines that set the schedule and tone for their entire day.
Children can copy notes or make up an assignment, but they can never get back what’s most important: the discussions, the demonstrations, the questions, the explanations by the teacher and the thinking that makes learning come alive. Activities such as Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop involve whole group as well as teacher instruction and interaction that cannot be “made up”.
Your child’s success in school depends on having a solid educational background – one that can only be gained through regular school attendance. Schools can’t do their job if your child is absent. Learning builds day by day. When a child misses a day of school they miss a day of learning.
You can improve your child’s school attendance by:
· Talking with your child about the importance of attending school regularly.
· Try to avoid scheduling family trips or doctor appointments during school hours.
· Make sure your child stays healthy by eating nutritious food and getting plenty of sleep and exercise.
· Don’t accept excuses for why your child “must” miss or be late for school.
· Discuss with your child what happened at school each day.
* Research shows that attendance is one of the most important factor in school success!
