book swap
We are holding a book swap for all students December 17-19th.
Here is how it will work:
From December 10-13: Students will bring in gently used children’s books to Room 27 (Grades 3-5) or Mrs. Berkman’s Room (Grade K-2). Students will get one ticket for each book they bring in.
From December 17-19: Every student will use their tickets to swap for books to take home! (We will make sure every student takes home one book even if he/she didn’t bring one in.)
Feel free to donate any of your old classroom books to the swap as well. Please watch for more details about the book swap schedule.
Literacy Coaching Cycles - from Brett
I recently had some time open up in my schedule and would love to start some new coaching cycles with teachers who I haven’t worked with yet. Please let me know if you are interested in starting a coaching cycle around a literacy practice you’d like to explore! Email me or find me in the halls!
MCAS Practice Tests Updates
Blank CBT Response Boxes Now Updated
Blank CBT response boxes, which allow students to practice answering constructed-response questions using TestNav, have been updated. For ELA and STE, students can answer the constructed-response question and use the blue arrow at the top of the screen to submit a final answer. Educators can then view the student response and print the screen to review students’ work (this is the same functionality as in the practice tests).
Calculators are embedded in the Mathematics and STE response boxes for the grade levels where a calculator is required during MCAS testing.
HOUR OF CODE
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.
The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2018 Computer Science Education Week will be December 3-9. Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906).
Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.
During Genius Hour this week use Kodable, Scratch, or Code.org.to further your student's love of coding and 21st century skills. The STEAM team will put stickers in your mailbox for your students to wear that tells everyone that they have completed an Hour of Code!

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
Winter has arrived! Did you scramble to find snow clothes to fit your kids this morning? For some of our families the scramble is more of a struggle and we would like to provide some assistance in keeping all of our Pandas warm and dry this winter. If you have any kid sized snow clothes (hats, mittens, boots, snow jackets and snow pants) that are clean and usable please help us get them to the families that need them! There will be a collection box in the lobby beginning Monday 11/19.
Please only donate use-able kids sized snow clothes!

REPORT CARDS
This is a "Bank" of frequently used comments to write report card comments (or part of them) in Spanish or Portuguese.
Following is a screen shot highlighting the 'Term' field. When you go into your gradebook, you may need to manually change this to Term 1 - and then the grade columns will appear.

Please remind your students to bring in items for Care & Share. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving.
