Heritage High Summer Update-Aug 7th
The news you need from the Home of the PRIDE!
August 7, 2020
The Latest
I do hope this update finds you and those you love safe and well.
Yesterday, Loudoun County Public Schools sent an email with more details about the schedule and other matters related to Distance Learning. If you missed it, you can find the information here or at lcps.org.
Now that the LCPS schedule for Distance Learning has been finalized, we can put the finishing touches on our schedule in preparation for the First Day of School on Tuesday, September 8th. Along with the other LCPS high schools, we will be following the times for the beginning and end of the blocks as described in the LCPS Distance Learning Schedule. Students will have access to their class schedules on Monday, August 24th.
I will be beginning my Weekly Updates next week, so you can be on the lookout for them, beginning Friday, August 14th. Just as I have done with these Summer Updates, I will send them out over email and post them to our Heritage High School webpage.
Our Counselors have returned from the Summer, so please reach out to them with questions about courses, schedules, or anything else they can help with. You can also be on the lookout for their monthly newsletter. The August edition will come out later this month!
The counselor breakdown is as follows:
Ms. Zawistowski: A-Cha
Ms. Simpkins: Che-Gol
Mr. Burke: Gom-La
Mr. Jones: Le-Or
Ms. Brown: Os-Sme
Mr. Elder: Smi-Z
We will be finalizing our plans for Back to School Night and New Student Orientation early next week, and I will send the details out by Wednesday of next week in a separate email, so you can have them on your calendar.

Census Reminder
- Special Education ($9.9 million/year)
- The National School Lunch Program ($8.5 million/year)
An undercount in your school's community would have major ramifications through the next census in 2030.
Class of 2021 (Senior) Information
Senior Portrait Update
You will be receiving an email from Heritage about Senior portraits and signing up for a time. I am just waiting for the sign-up link from Victor O'Neill. UPDATE: Victor O'Neill will now be steaming the shared drapes and tuxes between sessions. So, these will once again be an option, as long as families sign a waiver. Students can still come in their own formal attire and do not have to wear the drape or tux. If students do not choose to wear the tux or drape, they will still be featured in the Yearbook in their personal attire. Cap and gown photos also will be an option in this round of Senior Portraits (with steaming between each student session); however, we still will schedule a Cap and Gown-only session in the Spring where students can be photographed in their cap and gown they will order for Graduation.
Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2 – Senior portraits in the cafeteria
Oct. 5 & 6 – senior make up
Late Winter/Spring 2021
Graduation 2021
This has not been scheduled yet, but as soon as it is, and we have a plan for it, I will let you know. Obviously, just as with Graduation 2020, much depends on physical distancing guidelines and the current state of health concerns. Although it will be here before we know it, there is still a lot of time between now and June, 2021, and as we are all well aware, a lot can change. However, now that we have seen all kinds of graduation ceremonies from inside Gyms to outside on the field to small, intimate individual ceremonies, I can assure you that we will do everything we can to make it meaningful for our graduates and families, because you deserve it!
Senior Fees/Activities
Communication about Senior Fees/Activities will be communicated next week, as well.
Parking Passes
We do not have any information about parking passes yet or spaces, but we will let you know as soon as the decision is made on the Division level.
