A Peek at the Week
Language Arts Skills:
*Onset-Rime: The onset is the initial consonant or consonant cluster of the word, and the rime is the vowel and consonants that follow it. For example, in the word “bat”, b- is the onset, and -at is the rime.
*High Frequency Words: in, is, it
*Reading – text to self connections, reading pattern basic books
*Writer’s Notebook – detailed illustrations (match the picture to the writing, draw a setting, add details, use every crayon, draw clothes, color inside the lines, add words)
*Poem of the Week – “Hello”
*Numeracy: 0-5 (recognizing, representing and writing)
*Composing – to create by putting the parts together
*Subitizing- the ability to quickly identify the number of items in a small set without counting.
Schedule for the Week:
*No School – Student Holiday
*Kindergarten News – Email
*Library – Please have your child return his/her library book in the BIG baggie provided by the library ladies.
*Substitute Teacher – Mrs. Raney will teach the class while the kindergarten teachers plan with the ICs (instructional coaches).
*P.E. – Please have your child wear tennis shoes and shorts under dresses/skirts for physical education.
*Take Home Readers – Your child will bring home a take home reader to read to the family. Please ask your child to retell the story (characters, setting, problem, solution, text to self connections).
*Center Room – The children get to play to help increase their social competence and emotional maturity.
*Early Dismissal – School hours are from 8:20-12:40.
*Pajama Day – Please have your child wear his/her pajamas to school on Friday. We are going to relax and enjoy the short day.
*Poem Book – Enjoy listening to your child sing “Hello”. Please return the poem book to school on Monday.
*No Specials on Early Dismissal
*Fall Festival (LASSO) – Friday, October 23 – A day full of fun playing games to reinforce language arts and math skills. We will need A LOT of parent volunteers! Please help!
*Pumpkin Carving – Friday, October 30 – Our dads will get a chance to help carve pumpkins and do some pumpkin activities from 8:45-9:30 in the science lab.
*The 50th Day of School – Tuesday, November 3 – Your child can dress like the 1950’s (rolled up jeans and white shirt, poodle skirt, sunglasses, etc.). The children will be bowling, hula hooping, and dancing the day away!
