Words from the Woods
October 2017
Progress Reports
Trimester 1 ends on November 17.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Conferences will take place between 1:00 and 6:00 and are scheduled every 15 minutes.
You may schedule conferences by calling the front office at 919-960-8353 or emailing Kathi Shaw at kshaw@woodscharter.org.
As always, you may contact a teacher directly to schedule a meeting at another time. We look forward to seeing you in the building!
EDS Data Collection Forms
Students received a hard copy of the Economically Disadvantaged Student data collection form. This data can determine eligibility for financial assistance with lunch, field trips, and other school expenses as well as waivers for college testing and admissions.
You may fill it out on paper and return it to school or complete the Financial Needs Survey online.
Upcoming Testing
PSAT scores are used to qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship, program invitations, other scholarships, and college marketing campaigns.
10th grade students will take the Pre-ACT on November 7. The Pre-ACT is required by the NCDPI, so does not require a fee. This test assesses similar academic strengths as well as student interests for college and career planning.
All 11th grade students are required by NC law to take the ACT in March.
Governor's School
Woods Charter School is invited to nominate a junior to apply for the prestigious Governor's School summer program. Students may submit a statement of interest to be considered. A faculty committee will select the final Woods nominee.
Find out more about the program online or in the 2018 Governor's School Nomination Packet. Please note that nominees must meet the eligibility standards outlined in the Nomination Packet to be considered by the committee.
If you would like to be considered, submit a 300-500 word statement describing your interest and qualifications to the assignment portal on the Junior Class Google Classroom by October 16.
Juniors College Planning Session
Junior year is prime time to consider colleges, visit campuses, think about priorities, solidify your academic record, and prepare for the application process.
France & Spain Summer Trip Interest Meeting
We will have an interest meeting for this trip on Tuesday, October 24 at 6:00PM in room 110 (Mme Derfeuil's room) for all travelers and their families. At that meeting, we will outline the itinerary and cover other details. Spread the word and get ready to embark on the trip of a lifetime!
