Digital Citizenship Certified School

Our school is applying to become a Common Sense Media Certified School for Digital Citizenship. A certified school ensures that all students and parents are engaged in activities that promote digital citizenship.

There are several requirements in order to be a Certified School for Digital Citizenship. One of the requirements is to teach digital citizenship lessons to various grade levels. Lessons are broken into units and are grade level appropriate. All lessons are found in Common Sense Media website. We are required to teach a certain number of minutes but since all students need to be responsible netizens, we encourage all grade levels to teach and promote digital citizenship.

Ms. Silva, Ms. Endo, Ms. Taylor, Ms. Hogan, Mrs. McCarthy, and I are available to help. If you would like to learn more about how to find lessons for your grade level, please let me know or any of the teachers mentioned above. The lessons can be taught in class or during computer lab time. Please work with Ms. Hogan so she can better assist your needs.

If you already have chosen a unit and are ready to begin your lessons, please complete Schedule for Digital Citizenship Lessons.

Another requirement is to promote digital citizenship awareness to our parents. I have not begun my work with our parents yet. If you are interested in helping to create a partnership with our parents, please let me know.

Lastly, our next meeting is this Wednesday, 2:45 pm, in the Teacher's Office. If you would like to know more about it, please stop by. All are welcome.

Always start with the "Why" - How Great Leaders Inspire Action by Simon Sinek

This is a great video that inspires us to always think about the "Why?" In designing instruction, we need to start with the purpose in mind. I hope you will find time to watch this video and be inspired, the same way I was.
