Bragg Street Academy
An Inside Look
The closure to this week reminds me that Bragg Street is staffed by amazing people who are willing to do whatever needs to be done to help students. You all are able to address the needs of children in a variety of ways. Bragg Steet has small classes so students get the attention they need (even though sometimes they don’t want the attention.) Through your creativity, you are willing to figure out different ways to help students learn. Outside of the classroom, you ensure our students have someone to talk and that they are safe.
Since safety is a cornerstone of what we do on a daily basis. If physical altercations occur, please assess the situation and the environment. If it is possible to move the students to another area, we must act quickly to ensure that all students are safe. In these situations, someone may need to step up into the leadership role and guide others while myself, the officer and any teachers dealing with the physical altercation try to isolate the incident. In addition to incidents, we must prepare for situations that are uncommon. It has come to my attention that as a staff, we need to go over fire drills, tornado drills, and lockdown drills. Some of you may be pros at these where others may not know the proper procedures. We will have a brief professional development on how to conduct these drills, the procedures to go over these drills with your students, and completing the drills in the coming weeks. I will send out a google form tomorrow to gain a deeper understanding of your expertise and needs. Following that, I will schedule our mini professional development.
We will start our new intervention class this week. Mr. Zachary Derrah will be joining us on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Ms. Clark will be leading the intervention class on Tuesday and Thursday. The intervention class will be in Ms. Clark's classroom in the pod area. We will follow the new guidelines established during our last faculty meeting. You will continue to provide warnings and classroom discipline strategies within the classroom. If needed, you will radio that intervention is needed for a student. A student will only be allowed to be sent to intervention 2 times. The third time will be with the principal (me). During the third conference, I will attempt to call the parent. If additional discipline or intervention is needed, the student will be sent home. Mr. Derrah will also be walking in and out of classrooms throughout the school day.
If you did not get a chance to sign up last week for your benefits, there will be someone at Central Office over the next two weeks. This is mandatory for all staff returning to Lee County Schools next school year.
Last but not least, I have completed the proposed budget this week. I had the Central Office Maintenance crew come up to quote us on the capital expenses. Our current expense speaks mainly to our need of additional certified staff members in social studies and science, a full-time interventionist and Apex support. When we last met, I expressed our remaining balance being very low. Good news......we have been given an additional $7500.00. You all work so hard planning an engaging lesson for our students. To help you in your efforts I will give each certified staff members will be given $100.00 for consumable classroom needs and $50.00 non-consumable items.

Up and Coming
- We have ACT testing on February 20th. We will be using the pod area (empty classroom) to test in.
- Advisory is our way to provide one-on-one support to our students through progress monitoring. Since you were just given the advisory check-in sheet, please work on week #5. Remember, you will need to meet with each of your students and conference with them once a week.
- Don't forget to update your grades weekly and lesson plans are due on Monday in Team Drive.
- PDP's need to be completed. I will be signing off on them this week. Third round observations will start next week.
- Liveschool awards our student's points for good behavior. With the PBIS committees help, my hope is that the awards system will be mainstreamed and that we can open the school store at least once a week. By opening the store once a week, student leaders will be needed and students will need to be exposed to the items they can purchase.
- I will be working at the end of the quarter incentive trip. Please think about the parameters we would like to put into place for students to take part in the trip.
