New Graduation Requirement / Financial Aid Night 11/9
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Class of 2022 seniors MUST complete one of the following to graduate. Yes, you read that correctly, if one of the following requirements are not met, they CANNOT graduate:
- Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or
- Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA), or
- Submit a signed opt-out form to their school counselor
To help you with this requirement, we are offering a financial aid night Tuesday, November 9th from 5:30-6:30pm:
- 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. : FAFSA/TASFA information session (SHS Auditorium)
- 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. : Direct assistance completing the FAFSA/TASFA (SHS Library)
The FAFSA priority deadline for Texas is January 15th, 2022. In preparation, both parents and students (if they filed) will need to bring their 2020 tax information.

22-23 Course Planning
- 9th Grade: 11/8 - 11/15
- 10th Grade: 11/30 - 12/3
- 11th Grade: 1/11 - 1/14
During this time your student will be meeting with their counselor face-to-face, through their English classes, to select their courses for the 2022-2023 school year. Please look for your student to bring home a course planning sheet that encourages your input and signature in advance of their meeting date. Once your student meets with their counselor, you will be able to view their selections in Home Access. Please contact your student’s counselor with any questions or concerns.

Also attached below is the schedule of all the clubs/activities and tutoring available during Power Hour. This is a great opportunity for students to get extra help, and/or become more involved on campus!

Common App College Applications
If your student has applied or is applying for colleges through Common App, you will need to go into Naviance to complete the process before counselors can send the necessary student documents. Please inform their counselor when they are applying or have applied through the Common App. Instructions are attached below.
Scholarship Opportunity: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Kappa Sigma Lambda Chapter Scholarship
The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Kappa Sigma Lambda Chapter Scholarship application is now available in the counselor's office and has a March 4, 2022 deadline. You can also download the form below.
Please encourage your seniors to request their letters of recommendation now. They should not wait until March 4th to start the process. Finding someone to proofread their essays well in advance of the deadline is absolutely necessary.

Scholarship Opportunity: LPA Diversity Scholarship
LPA has opened applications for our Interdisciplinary Diversity Scholarship Program, which awards five high school seniors in California and Texas with $5,000 renewable scholarships each year. This is a great opportunity for seniors in historically underrepresented communities interested in pursuing careers related to architecture, engineering and design. In addition to financial aid, students will be matched with LPA mentors in their respective disciplines and will be eligible for paid summer internships at LPA.

Soccer Information
Boys Soccer tryouts will be held from November 30th through December 1st, after school. Please see Coach Booker in RM 2411 or Coach Mann in RM 2407.
