Our Vision
Strive to be Effective Communicators
Thunderbird Families,
Today is the beginning of the 4th quarter!
- BUG resumes today, 3/25/24
- Full Evacuation Drill: Thursday, 3/28 @ approximately 1:20pm will be our practice full evacuation drill to Mesilla Elementary. A full evacuation drill is defined as the practiced evacuation of school buildings; which includes all campus areas, as though there were an actual fire, chemical exposure, bomb threat or other emergency, with the goal of a safe and orderly assembly of all evacuees at pre-determined locations. Students will leave all belongings at school; however, they may carry a water bottle. We will walk along the north side of University to the intersection with Hwy 28, cross to the south side of university through the east crosswalk, then cross Hwy 28 through the south crosswalk and continue along the south side of University to Mesilla Elementary. Our staff will wear safety vests for visibility and the Mesilla Marshal's office will assist with traffic control. In order to test our communication systems, we will also send messaging via Remind as part of the drill.
- Friday, 3/29-Monday, 4/1 Spring Holiday-No School
- Welcome back, Ms. Suggs, Ms. Urquidi and Ms. Winners! Our amazing science teachers attended the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conference in Denver last week. We can't wait to see and hear about all of the new things they learned!
- Big thank you to Mr. Torres and our 8th grade team for hosting a successful car show this weekend! Approximately 80 cars registered and showed in support of Zia! What a wonderful way to bring our community together!
- This weeks newsletter includes an April and May calendar of events. I will update date it weekly moving forward.
- PFO and our 8th grade team are working hard to fundraise for the 8th grade Chihuahua's Baseball field trip. We will meet with 8th graders during advisory this week to review academic and behavior eligibility expectations so every kiddo has an opportunity to attend.
Dream, Believe, Achieve!

Current 7th Graders Interested in Accelerating to High School Algebra as an 8th Grader
The letter below was sent home with all 7th graders last week. In order to be considered for placement in Algebra I (high school credit course) as an 8th grader, your kiddo must take a placement exam on May 1st. Please read the letter as a family and send back to your child's math teacher with signature no later than April 8th. Algebra is not a requirement for any middle school student, it is only for those interested in accelerating.
Contact a Counselor if your child is interested in joining mariachi next year!
My child cannot make it to BUG. Are there other options?
If your kiddo cannot attend BUG for tutoring and homework support, please encourage use of PAPER, a 24/7 online tutor available through the Clever app in Canvas.
