CANNED FOOD DRIVE
The canned food drive starts November 1st and will end November 15, 2018. These cans provide needed food for families in our area during the holidays. Let’s all help take care of others by providing food to families who need our support. Please bring in Thanksgiving non-perishable foods starting today. Other food items always needed are corn, green beans, peas, baked beans, fruit, soup, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, ravioli, beef stew, chili, and cereal.
Thank you!
Second grade at Montgomery Elementary collected socks as a service project in October. We were able to donate 1,597 pairs of socks to Operation Give Back for Socktober. The kids did chores in order to earn the money to get the socks.
HEARING AND VISION SCREENINGS
The Ohio Department of Health vision & hearing screenings have been completed recently at Montgomery Elementary for kindergarten, first and third grade students. The goal of the school screening program is to identify children who have possible vision or hearing disorders at an early age and refer for diagnosis and care. This year’s screening program was a huge success both in reassuring our students, and in identifying those children in need of further care.
A heartfelt “Thank You” to the following parents who volunteered their time and energies to these important screenings:
Michelle Breen
(parent coordinator)
Joseph Breen
Molly Duffey
Carrie Steenbergen
Katie Russell
Ny Dumrauf
Jen Nally
Janet Johnston
Erika Ashe
Amber Bruncks

Dear Families,
The week of November 12th the Aviation Station will return to our school! We will be in need of lots of cardboard for the project. Please consider saving and sending in a few boxes to school. We can use any kind of cardboard, from cereal boxes to Amazon Prime boxes!
Thank you for your help!
NEWS FROM THE MEDIA CENTER
A big Montgomery Media Center THANK YOU to all of the teachers, volunteers, and students that helped make the Joseph Beth Book Fair one of the best ever. Remember, 20% of all profits come right back to our media center. That money is used to purchase new books for our library!
A couple of things to keep in mind:
Hang on to your books after you have read them. We will have our annual “Book Swap” in April during our school Earth Week celebration. This is a great time for students to exchange books that they have purchased from this fall’s book fair and get some new titles.
We will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair in May. Just in time for some new books for summer reading.
“There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.”
― Frank Serafini

I’m very excited that Bill Fritz, Director of Technology for the district, has agreed to speak at our next general meeting about kids, the internet, and what parents can do to keep them safe.

Montgomery Marker Challenge
Start cleaning out your craft closet and drawers!
Every year, millions of used markers are tossed in the trash and find their way into landfills. We can help reduce that number by repurposing used markers through the Crayola ColorCycle program.
Beginning November 5th students can bring in used-up markers, highlighters and dry erase markers (regardless of brand) for a chance to be crowned the "Green Heroes" of the school. No pencils or pens, please.
Each classroom will have its own small marker collection box. The first week of December the class with the largest collection of used-up markers will be announced as the winning class.
So let's make it Green, Montgomery....one marker at a time!

HASSLE FREE MONEY for Montgomery Elementary
Did you know that the school has partnered with businesses in the community to have thosebusinesses donate money directly to Montgomery Elementary for the everyday items you purchase?
Here’s how it works:
Register your Kroger Plus Card – When you enroll your Kroger Plus card in the Kroger Community Rewards Program on www.krogercommunityrewards.com and select Montgomery Elementary PTO (VP832), you will automatically earn dollars for the school based on the purchases you are already making.
(Anyone with a Kroger Plus card can do this….don’t forget to ask friends and family members if they would like to help Montgomery Elementary earn money.)
Collect Pipkin’s Receipts - Save your Pipkin’s receipts. Send the receipts to school in a marked envelope to your homeroom teacher. Pipkins will donate a percentage of those receipts directly to the PTO!
Collect Box Tops - Box Tops for Education can be found on various household products. Look for the symbol, and save Box Tops or visit: www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products . Please begin clipping and mark your calendars for our Fall Box Top collection, through October 5-26. Students should turn Box Tops in to their homeroom teacher. The class that collects the most Box Tops will get a Pajama Day and special treat.
Remember: Your child may also ask other special people in their lives (grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends/neighbors) to clip/save their Box Tops and Pipkin’s receipts for them too. This is a great way to boost their collection and an easy way for loved ones to support our school!
