WDES School to Home Connection

September 14, 2020

STAY Connected!

Happy Week Three, WDES students and families! Thank you for being patient with us and working with our staff members through the virtual learning growing pains. Our students are doing amazing work through the Canvas platform. Don't forget to sign up with your child's teacher to receive updates through the Remind app or the Class Dojo app. Both of these apps are FREE and can be downloaded through your app store. You can message your child's teacher by text, send pictures, and videos!

Also, if you need one on one support with navigating Canvas, we are offering 1 on 1 appointments on Mondays to assist families that are having issues with Canvas or Technology. Please complete the Google Form below to schedule an appointment. Remember to bring your device and wear a mask. Thank you for all you do. Remember, we are in this together.

Schedule an Appointment

If you are having issues with technology or understanding Canvas, please schedule an appointment. Be sure to wear a mask and bring your child's device/ materials. Please do not bring anyone who is sick.

Instructional Packet Pick Up/ Delivery Options

Every Thursday, we will have instructional packages prepared for families to pick up from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. These materials serve as a supplement to the virtual learning. If you are not able to pick up this package, we will deliver it to you on Fridays through the Meal Delivery Buses (11:15 AM-1:15 PM). If you are not at the bus stop to receive this package, please leave a crate with a lid outside of your home that is labeled "WDES Instructional Materials." Please let us know if you have any issues with this.

In regards to returning completed work and materials, please return the work that has been requested by the teacher as well as the gold/blue folder and clear folder that has your child's name and address on it. These materials can be dropped off at school any day of the week in the file cabinet (by grade level) located under the awning by the car rider loop or given to the staff on meal delivery buses.

If you have not already done so, please complete the instructional materials survey below so we know how to best help you!

Amazing Artists Share Self Portraits!

Check out these beautiful self portraits that WDES students made in Mrs. Campbell's Art Class this week!

All School Read: The Narwhal

In your instructional package that was picked up/ delivered last week, you received a copy of our All School Read, The Narwhal. In addition, we sent home an activity packet to complete that goes along with the book. This is not a graded assignment, just a fun and engaging way to connect all of our WDES students with the love of reading! We will be recording a few "guest readers" reading this book aloud to students. On Friday, September 18, we will have a Dress as your Favorite Character from the Narwhal Book Day (staff will be dressed up too!). Share your pictures on our school Facebook Page! Check out the video from the "Reading Ladies" below.

Happy Birthday to Our August/September Babies!

Even if we can't say Happy Birthday in person, we want to recognize our students' birthdays! In this week's instructional package, we sent birthday certificates and pencils to all of our August and September babies. Summer babies, don't worry, we won't forget you! We will celebrate summer birthdays over the winter break!

Got Data?

Thank you all for barring with us through the data struggle. Currently, we are only able to live stream with video for the first 5 minutes of our daily morning meetings. We are in the process of changing our data source to something that is truly unlimited and will not require us to limit the amount of live instruction time. We know how important it is for your children to see their teacher and their classmates and we are working on a solution. Thank you for your patience!

4H Club Donates Novels to 4th & 5th Grade Students
