Parent Teacher Conferences
A few tips to help your night go smoothly...
1- Be prepared- Have materials in order of conferences and have them easy to get to.
2- Face the clock- Have a visual so that you can stay on time. This is important.
3- Point out the positives- Every kid has them....some are harder to find than others, but find something!! Start with that!
4-Make sure they leave with an idea of what they need to work on. Keep in simple, but professional and don't use teacher terms and language they will not understand.
5-Parents are just as nervous as we are about conferences. They fear that we are judging them just as much as their child. If they believe that you care about your student ( and I know you do) they are 100% more willing to do what you ask.
More on the issue of time: If they have to wait for long periods it sits a negative tone for the conference. Try to stay on schedule as best you can. It is OK to ask parents to call and set up another time if you have more to discuss and the time is out.
If they show up 10 mins late, explain to them you can only meet for 5 mins due to your other appointments. Sometimes that is what gets us off track.
If they still keep talking...stand up. That helps signal that you need to move on.
I know all of you have been working extremely hard getting report cards ready and gearing up for conferences. Thank you for all your hard work!
Make sure you add 2:00 early dismissal to newsletters for Oct 18th & 20th.

S.T.O.P. meeting
We will meet again on Wednesday the 26th.
Unity Day-Wear Orange on Wednesday & Superhero Rally
We are going to have our Superhero Rally that day. We will play a few games, have a video, and we will also have a guest from the Animal Shelter here to accept the donation that we have collected. We are going to have the rally at 1;30. We are not adjusting the activity schedule, but if your class is in activity, the activity teachers can bring them.
I am very excited about how many students have been bringing up hero cards!!! Positive reinforcements is always a good thing in my book. We need more bracelets which is a good problem to have. I am attaching a form for you to tell me how many you need. They will more than likely get their bracelets at a later time so that we have enough.
Field Trips
We can't go on a Friday and May is not an option. Make sure you check dates with transportation before you book something. Also avoid days of ACT assessments and check the school calendar.
