GRADE 6 PROMOTION CELEBRATION
The 6th Grade Promotion Planning Committee is gathering some information on when best to celebrate our children's promotion from East Vincent Elementary School. The thought would be have a family-style farewell picnic at EV where families can bring food and lawn games to celebrate with friends and classmates. We are considering having food trucks at the event as well. Please help us plan ahead for the celebration by completing the survey below.
The survey also includes questions about your child's t-shirt size, preferred name for a legacy project, and optional monetary donation.
One survey per student must be completed by Friday, May 22.
GRADE 6 VIRTUAL PROMOTION CEREMONY
The EV community will recognize the EV Class of 2026 at a virtual promotion ceremony on Monday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. The entire ceremony will be pre-recorded and released at 10:30 a.m. via Skylert and East Vincent Elementary School social media accounts for all to listen and see.
Promotion certificates will go home in your child's bag on May 26 or May 28 during the student materials exchange event. This decision was made as to limit the amount of times your family and our staff need to interact physically during this time.
LETTER FROM MR. STOLTZFUS, OJRMS PRINCIPAL
sent via OJRMS Skylert on May 5, 2020
6th grade families,
It is hard to believe that we are in the last month of school and, before you know it, your son/daughter will be a Middle School student. We are excited to welcome all of our new faces to our building as they will all be together collectively as the class of 2026 for the first time. For many students (and parents) the transition to Middle School brings with it some anxious moments. For the first time in years, students are leaving the comfort of their respective Elementary schools and in to a building with new teachers, new administrators, new students, lockers, and a pool!!! Fear not, we know what to expect and we are ready. Below, I have included some of the plans we have in place to help your child feel more comfortable prior to the first day of school in the fall.
Virtual Tour of the Middle School
If we were still in school, all 6th grade students would have come to the Middle School on Thursday, May 28 . They would have toured the building, had lunch in our cafeteria, and had the opportunity to ask questions they had to some of our current students. Since that cannot happen, we are going to bring the tour to you. We are creating a virtual tour of the building that will highlight some of the most important areas to know about and (hopefully) make them a bit more familiar with their new building. We will send that out to families on Friday, May 29 .
Google Hangouts
We have set up google hangouts for each Elementary center. Current 6th grade students and their families are invited to join us. We’ll also have our Middle School administrative team, guidance counselors, many of our teachers, and some of our current 7th grade students joining us. We will talk about the Middle School experience and answer questions posed by our current 6th grade students. To that end, we’ve put together a google form for our rising 7th grade students that will allow them to enter the questions that are on their mind as they look ahead to the Middle School. We will then use these questions to guide our conversations as there may be well over 100 people joining us in our virtual meetings and, in this way, we’ll be able to get to as many questions as possible. Schedule for 6th Grade Google Meetings:

12:00pm – East Vincent
Wednesday, June 3rd:

Summer Open Houses
These events are subject to change depending on any restrictions set forth by state/local governments.
Wednesday, August 12th: 7th Grade Open House and Barbeque
No 8th graders permitted at this one!! The building will be open to our new 7th grade students from 10:00am-noon. Come in and “walk your schedule”, open your locker, meet new/old friends, etc. Starting at 11:00, our food-service provider will be serving up burgers and dogs with all the sides to any who wish to partake. This is a fun day for everyone involved.
Thursday, August 13th and Monday, August 17th: Middle School Open House dates
Both 7th and 8th grade students are welcome to the building to get familiar with the location(s) of their classes for the 2020-21 school year. Who knows, some of your teachers may even be in the building too. Stop in their room(s) and say hello!
We will continue to provide you with updates related to the 6th grade – 7th grade transition as we move toward the end of this school year and throughout the summer. We look forward to meeting all of our new students and their families.
Respectfully,
Mr. Corbin D. Stoltzfus
