RED CROSS
Darfur
What we have done
Since early 2011, the American Red Cross has been supporting activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Darfur region of Sudan. Since 1984, the International Committee of the Red Cross has worked with the Sudan Red Crescent in Darfur to ensure that people directly affected by armed conflict are protected in accordance with international humanitarian law, receive emergency aid, medical care, and livelihoods support.
We are protecting the human right right to live by giving people food and shelter.
While the secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day running of the IFRC, the decisions on its direction and policy are made by the governing bodies. These bodies define a framework of purpose, policies, goals and programmes, and provide a mechanism for accountability.
We get government funding but also get support for donations from people.
We have helped in Darfur by giving the people food and shelter.
