1800s
Art Styles
Realism
The art represents the world as it is. Often focusing on harsh side of life. There wasn't imagination being used, they need to have seen it to paint it.
Romanticism
The style is bizarre, pathetic, extravagantly heroic, with tense linear drawings and bold contrasts of light and shades.
Impressionism
Painters didn't blend their brush strokes. The human eye would mix the colors.
Photography
Photos did everything a painting showed. It was realistic and showed the tough times and it was romantic showing faraway fascinating places. The artists had to compete with the camera.
Post-Impressionism
Post-Impressionism is a variety of styles each artist has its own. Georges Seurat used multiple dots to show objects. Van Gogh used sharp brush strokes and bright colors.
