Newsletter Week 1 Term 4

Turua School 20th October 2022

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome Back to term 4. A reminder that our School Policy requires all students to wear a brimmed hat while playing outside in term 4. Hats can be left at school in tote trays to ensure they are not left at home and it is always best if they are named.

We start the term with a holiday on Monday with our Calf Club event following on the Tuesday. Calf Club is always a fun day and all students are welcome to attend with their parents - Please just let the office or teachers know.

As well as the animal judging there is some pretty awesome artworks in the classrooms which will also be judged. Come in and have a look around as all the classrooms are open for viewing from 11.30am.

A reminder that we also have a preschool event at 10.00am for those wanting to participate.

Garden to Table

We were off to a cracker start at garden to table this term. This week all the classes made crackers and a dip to serve with it; Te Wheke had broad bean dip, Mangopare some pumpkin, and Kaitaki made an exceptional beetroot relish. We also got some lemonade ready for sale next week.

Outside we fed, labelled and organised plants ready in the greenhouse, did some weeding, pulled out the last of some of our cool weather crops, and planted the first of our sweetcorn crops. The seniors worked up a sweat cleaning up some trees that had been cut down too. The garden teams also continued preparation for the seedling sale. We will have masses of different varieties available for sale next week at calf club. Come down on the day and check out calf club, support the children, buy some lemonade, and get you garden stocked up for summer. Giant pumpkin seedlings will also be ready!

Calf Club

eehaa and woop woop. Tuesday October 25th is the day! Calf Club 2022 - no covid, no m.bovis, just Turua having a wonderful community day. We can't wait to see you all there, make sure to bring along all your friends and neighbours too.

Animals need to be a school by 9.30 am for judging to get underway at 10am. On arrival please use the gate located in the staff car park so we don't end

up with animal donations everywhere ;) Set yourself up on the field and enjoy the show. Feel free to bring a chair to sit on and some shade. If you have an

animal don't forget to bring something for them to drink out of, and those with sheep and goats might prefer to bring their own standard for tethering. Competition

numbers and programs will be available under the shade sail area. If you have a DIY animal bring it along and place it in the ring between the hall and shade sail area, and please also collect a registration number.

Make sure to bring along all your loose change, the PTA will be selling raffles tickets for our mystery bags, the staff dinner raffle, and Rotorua extravaganza. If you have tickets at home please return these by tomorrow or bring along on the day. These will be drawn after prizegiving on the day. We also will be running a cake auction so if you can donate an iced cake to the cause please bring it along looking all fancylike - the money raised from this is going directly into improving the school literacy program. The world famous Turua PTA bbq will also be in action with all the favs available as well as drinks. The garden to table crew also have their annual seedling stall open for you to get your giant pumpkin entries.

Book Club Gifting

To make it easy for parents to give the gift of reading this year, the LOOP Gift Function has automatically been turned on for this issue.

To maintain the surprise gift of reading, an A4 flyer and 15 stickers will be included with the student distribution slip, which you can use to clearly identify each individual child’s order as a SURPRISE GIFT.

Gift orders are intended to be given directly to the parents, not the child. Please note: gift orders do not come gift-wrapped
