Viera Elementary Happenings
February 1, 2023
Welcome to Viera Elementary
Thank you to all families that were able to come to conference night. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you wish to have another conference or are still in need of scheduling one.
When signing up to have lunch with your student, please be sure that you put all information in. If you are bringing a mom and a dad, you must put both names. Also, again we ask that you please do not sign up for each week so that other families can have the opportunity if they wish. Thank you for your assistance.
Our chorus students, mascot and Mrs. Schwab were able to attend the ground breaking ceremony for the new middle school in Viera set to open August 2024. It was such a wonderful event and the school is going to be focused on science and technology. This is sure to be an amazing experience for our students once they transition to middle school!
We have had an increase in issues with students using their smart watches throughout the school day. This includes sending and receiving texts and navigating sites. This is against school and district policy. If your child has a smart watch, please be sure that notifications and alerts are off during the school day and please also have a conversation with them that the watches are not to be used while at school.
During this time of year, we see many students bringing warm or hot drinks with them each morning (coffee, tea, hot chocolate). Please do not send students to school with any warm or hot drinks. If the drink were to spill on your student or another student, it could cause harm. Thank you for helping to ensure the safety of all students.
Thank you for your continuous support of Viera Elementary. Please reach out anytime you have a question or concern.

Root of the Week
Root of the Week: Word Superstars. Each week we will share a new root on the morning announcements. Students are encouraged to use words with this root. In fact, if teachers or staff catch a student using a word with the root, they can give them a ticket. They can fill out the ticket and put it in the box that will be in the cafeteria. At the end of the week we will draw five tickets out to recognize our Word Superstars. They will receive a special spirit tag that says “Word of the Week Superstar”.
The root of the week this week is aqua: the Latin root meaning water
Lunch with your Student
Beginning, the week of September 6, parents will be able to eat lunch on campus with their child one day a week. This will be each Wednesday and spots will be limited, so parents must sign up in advance at https://signup.com/go/hefokio. Additionally, there are some guidelines which must be followed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus:
- · Parents must be on time for their child’s scheduled lunch time.
- · Parents must communicate with their child’s teacher that they will be coming to lunch on that day.
- · Parents must sign in at the front office and then will be escorted to the cafeteria to meet their child if they are not a registered volunteer.
- · There will be a designated table that the parent and student will sit at, this will not be with the class.
- · Parents may only have lunch with their child, no exceptions will be allowed.
- · While having lunch with your child, no cameras or phones taking pictures are permitted to protect the privacy of other students and families.
- · We strongly encourage younger siblings to stay home as we will have limited seating available.
- · Visitors/Volunteers are expected to dress appropriately when visiting campus.
- · Once your child’s lunch is over, they will promptly join their class to dismiss. Parents are not able to follow their child/the class back to the classroom and will sign out in the front office.
