Each year, students in our Social Studies classes enter an essay contest “What Freedom Means to Me”. The contest winner is given the honor of reading his/her essay at the Veteran's Day Ceremony at Memorial Park on Veterans Day. Congratulations to this year's winner Kaitlin Kroes and this year's runner up, Ashley Goodrich. Both girls did a wonderful job representing Otsego Middle School. Way to go! Look for speeches to be posted soon.

2nd Trimester Quickly Approaching

It's hard to believe that we are almost 1/3 of the way through the 2015-16 school year. We begin our 2nd trimester on Monday, Nov. 30th. This fall our enrollment increased by 30+ more students than we had planned on attending. This led to class sizes over 28. In order to balance class sizes, we have added in five additional classes. Mr. Burrill will be teaching an additonal 8th grade Science. Mrs. Goodwin & Mrs. Conner will be teaching an additional math class. Mr. Knash will be teaching an additional 8th grade English Language Arts class 2nd trimester and Mrs. Lincoln will teach that class 3rd trimester. Mr. Belton, from Otsego High School, will join us for one hour to teach an 8th grade Social Studies class. It is possible that your student may see some adjustments to their 2nd trimester schedule. We tried to keep students with their current teachers as much as possible. However, it could be during a different hour. Students will receive their 2nd trimester schedule before we leave for Thanksgiving break.

November's Students of the Month

Attention All Runners

We are looking for gently used running gear for our students to help support their hobby throughout the winter. We are looking for gently used running gear that includes tops, bottoms, shoes, spikes, gloves, head buffs, base layers, and old race shirts you don't wear. If you happen to have any you would like to donate, please drop it off in the middle school office attention Mr. Burrill. Thank you in advance for your help!

Thank you Old National Bank!

Thank You Old National Bank! OMS was awarded $1000 last week courtesy of Old National Bank. During the month of September, Old National offered communities the opportunity to vote for their favorite school to win a $1,000 Tools for Schools grant. Voting ran from September 1 - 30, 2015. The community was able to vote daily for their school of choice . Fourteen (14) $1,000 grants were awarded, one in each of Old National Bank’s regions. Otsego Middle School was fortunate to land one of the fourteen. An enormous thank you goes out to Shelley Fitzpatrick for nominating Otsego Middle School and to all who took time to vote for us.

Young Men Keeping it REAL

Beginning on Friday, Nov. 20th, Mr. Knash will be hosting a small group for all OMS gentlemen called Young Men Keeping it REAL. The word REAL is an acronym for Respect, Empowerment, Attitude, & Leadership. Mr. Knash's main goal is to inform these young men of some of the struggles and temptations that they will face as they get older and give them tools to help handle it. We are trying to help them make good decisions and be men with integrity. This group and its discussions are Christian based. The books that are in this group come from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The meetings are held monthly (the third Friday of every month) from 6:45 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. in room 113 (across from the Media Center). Each meeting starts with breakfast and each student will need to bring $1 every month to help cover the costs of the meal. If you have any questions about the book or the group, please contact Mr. Knash at jknash@otsegops.org. Permission slips are available in our office.
