Let's take a moment this week to focus on our mental health and well-being. Let's give our children the power to "unplug" from today's fast-paced world and stressful schedules. One of the best ways to "unplug" is through the powerful practice of Yoga. Yoga helps children to learn to live in the moment, focus on the task at hand, and handle problems peacefully. The more children practice Yoga, the greater the benefits. They become more aware of their own bodies and how they function. The American Academy Of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends Yoga as a safe and potentially effective therapy for children coping with emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral health conditions. Additional benefits of yoga include regulated blood and hormone levels, and decreased abdominal pain in children with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Yoga has been shown to improve self-confidence, mood, stress reduction, anxiety, concentration, hyperactivity, classroom behaviors, and emotional balance. And last but definitely not least, yoga is a relatively inexpensive activity to practice! Many great resources and information about Yoga and children can be found online. Give it a try!

I am happy to meet with any member of the community! Should you like to discuss questions, concerns, or any matter, please contact Ms. Melissa Johnson at 973-292-2250 ext. 6550 to schedule an appointment.
