Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
One focus of our Strategic Plan is to increase our students’ reading levels. Research shows strong readers have significantly more educational achievement and options, and we want all of our students to thrive academically at WBMS and beyond and later be able to choose any educational pathway that matches their interests and passions. Thus, we started our Monday reading time in Compass, and I am excited to say I see students carrying books around everywhere at WBMS! Students are walking down the halls reading, reading at lunch, and reading on the bus. In addition, we are integrating research-based reading strategies into all content areas throughout the year, but we want to ensure there is protected time set aside to simply enjoy reading for the sake of reading. Statistically reading for pleasure decreases after students leave elementary school, and we must break that cycle. This week I spent my time reading with Dr. Barket’s Compass class and look forward to reading with a different class each Monday. Please partner with us to keep the love of reading alive!
Enjoy your weekend!

Install Updates Regularly - Beginning This Weekend!
Microsoft Windows Updates for the Surface tablet should be checked on a regular basis. As a best practice the Surface tablet:
• Should be connected to a power outlet. (The tablet may install updates via the tablet battery but it is recommended to keep the tablet connected to a power supply.)
• The battery power level must be at least 40% charge. A higher battery charge is recommended.
Here is a video to show you how to install your updates: Surface Video

TAG- Notification of Screening Process
The consideration for gifted services may be reported or automatic as defined by the GaDOE Resource Manual for Gifted Education Services. The Fulton County School System screens all students for eligibility for gifted services twice a year and uses a systematic approach to identify highly capable students who may qualify for gifted services. The gifted teacher routinely reviews available data to refer students for further assessment. Students meeting either the automatic screening OR the classroom screening criteria AND have supporting data gathered from test history, products, and/or advanced content levels are referred for additional testing to determine gifted eligibility. Please click the link above to find out more.
