Women's History Month Resources From Newsela
CMSD Announcement:
PoG Alignment: Communication and Information Technology Literacy
Grade Band: Elementary and Middle School Level
Topic Overview: A champion must have physical strength, but she must also have mental grit. She must remain calm in the face of pressure, and be determined to excel despite fatigue or stress. A good teammate must have good technique, but she must also know how to help her teammates to shine. A coach must be able to push her team to go farther than they believe they can, but she must also know how to nurture their confidence. Strong can mean so many different things, but every meaning of the word relates to women in sports.
In this Text Set, you’ll explore strength and excellence in women’s sports.
To access the lessons and activities that accompany these articles, as well as worksheets and SEL Connections to support them, please use this PDF: Women’s History Month Lessons: Strong Women.

Pi Day 2023
Every year, Pi Day falls on the same date: On March 14, math teachers around the country celebrate pi, since the date 3/14 resembles the first few digits of the number: 3.14. (Plus, if you’re in class at 1:59, you can even celebrate Pi Minute!)
Why Do We Celebrate Pi Day?
How often does math get a holiday? Pi Day is a big chance to bring celebration into the math classroom. Moreover, the illustrious history of pi spans millennia and has more than earned pi’s status as a holiday. Its relationship to the circle makes it approachable to students just starting school, and its qualities as an irrational number can make it captivating to math students of all ages.
