Counseling Program Mission
The mission of Morton’s/Uplift DM Elementary Counseling Program is to provide a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program that empowers students with solution focused strategies to attain social/emotional, academic and career goals. Through collaboration with staff, parents/guardians, and community members students will be enabled to become successful productive citizens and lifelong learners in a globally diverse world.

Get a head start on your future
Xello is an engaging, online program that helps students transform their aspirations into personalized, actionable plans for academic, college & career success.
Kindergarten - 2nd grade students will visit Career Town to learn about various careers within a specific entity.
Our 3rd thru 5th grade students will dig deeper into various careers by completing missions. These missions have lessons which will allow them to understand that their talents and skills which will guide them to a specific future career.

College/Career Readiness
Seven Steps to Assist in Your Child’s College/Career Readiness
1. Realize career choices must be made. Give them responsibilities at home such as chores.
Discuss how careers relate to school subjects.
2. Learn your interests and do them well. Help your child discover his/her personal interests and skills.
3. Identify occupations to consider seriously. Make sure your child explores various careers throughout their school years.
4. Gather information about some professions. Encourage your child to learn how to interview, job shadow at school or read about various jobs.
5. Create a short list of careers. Review a list of interesting careers with your child and update every year.
6. Plan for future education. Research your child’s future high school and plan of study.
Look into scholarships or any type of aid available before they start high school.
7. Get a job. Once your child is ready to work, have them apply and discuss various up and downs that may occur at a job. Encourage and guide your child with resumes and interviews.

November is Be Kind For Your Future month! The GPISD Counseling Services, College and Career, and Career and Technical Education Departments collaborate together to support future planning for all students. Whether a student chooses a college, a career or the military, GPISD works to develop a clear plan for after graduation.
