Favianna Rodriguez

Favianna Rodriguez is an interdisciplinary artist, cultural organizer, and political activist. Her art and collaborative projects address migration, economic inequality, gender justice, and ecology. She lectures globally on the power of art, cultural organizing and technology to inspire social change, and leads art interventions in communities around the country. Rodriguez partners with social movement groups around the world to create art that’s visionary and transformational.

Matika Wilbur: Native American Photographer

Changing the way we see Native America. Matika Wilbur is a photographer, known for her exhibitions such as 'We Are One People' and 'Save The Indian, Kill The Man', and will be speaking on social justice issues that affect contemporary Native American culture.

Most people know her as "Flaca" on Orange Is The New Black. Outside of being a dynamic actress and singer-songwriter, Jackie Cruz is a renowned speaker that audiences have embraced around the country. Highlighting coming back from a near fatal car accident that jeopardized her career, Cruz motivates her audiences to go after their dreams by powering through adversity.

The Wage Gap is a statistic that women make 73 cents to a man's dollar. But it is more than that. Race, Gender, Ability, and Sexual Orientation are ALL factors. This workshop will provide students with the knowledge they need to feel confident in salary negotiation in order to combat the Wage Gap.

SSS Scholarships Available

Application deadline is Friday, May 6 @ 4:00 PM

Application materials can be obtained from the SSS website:

Twenty-two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to present SSS students for the 2016-17 academic year

  • 15 scholarships will be awarded to students in the traditional SSS program
  • 7 scholarships will be awarded to students in the STEM SSS program

In order to be eligible for the scholarships, students must:

1) Currently be 1st or 2nd years student at UW Oshkosh

2) A recipient of the Federal Pell Grant for the 2016-17 academic year

3) 2.5 GPA at the end of the Spring 2016 semester

4) Enrolled in 12 or more credits both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters

How to apply:

Be an active participant in SSS or STEM SSS

  • Attended the required number of meetings with your SSS advisor
  • Participate in the majority of your Learning Group sessions, if applicable


  • Attend three campus events and write a summary of each

Complete an SSS Scholarship Application

Write a 2 to 3 page essay addressing specific criteria

See your SSS or STEM SSS Advisor for additional information

Pre-Law Scholars Program @ UW Madison

This program is open to students who have completed their freshman or sophomore years of college. The program is designed to help students explore legal education and careers in law and help them succeed in applying to, enrolling in, and graduating from law school. As a program participant, you will receive tuition, free room and board for the duration of the program, and a $1,000 stipend.
