November - A Time of Blessings and Gratitude

Dear GUMC Families,

Autumn is here and the holiday season will soon be upon us! There are so many fun activities and events ahead, so please take the time to check out our calendar below. I expect our calendars to fill up quickly!

We are excited to begin our annual school mission project, Operation Christmas Child! This shoebox ministry is a wonderful opportunity to help your child experience the joy that is felt when giving to others. In a consumeristic world of want, want, want, get, get, get, Operation Christmas Child offers the opportunity to teach our children what it means to give. Not only will children experience giving a gift to a child in need, they also get to experience giving, without expecting something in return.

Operation Christmas Child also teaches children about the blessings that they have. No matter our economic situation in the United States, we are beyond blessed when compared with many of the children who will receive a shoebox. This mission project helps children have an appreciation for what they have, and hopefully makes them more aware of their responsibility to help others. I encourage you to track your shoebox so that you can find out where the shoebox gift goes and who might receive it. You can use the QR code on the label to pay shipping and to track your box.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. ~ James 1:17

November, the season for Thanksgiving, always turns our hearts toward God and His many blessings. This year, I am once again thankful for our outstanding staff, and for you, the amazing families that we serve. Your children are a daily blessing in our lives!

We wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving Season!
Miss Kim

Giving Tuesday

The sun is setting sooner. The leaves are changing colors and falling to the ground. The smell of autumn and Pumpkin Spice is in the air. Our thoughts turn to football, turkey dinners, sweaters, and of course, Black Friday! Once again, GUMC is asking its community to join in the generous spirit of the season by supporting our fall fundraising efforts. In the past, fundraising monies have been used to update the playground, build a new tree house, replace an old laminator and purchase an intercom system. Please consider giving through our Facebook page on Tuesday, November 29th beginning at 8:00am. Find the link to our Facebook page here and like it for further communication and to make your donation! https://www.facebook.com/GUMC-Preschool-1657265144559945

10 Ways to Teach Your Kids Gratitude This Thanksgiving

"Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday for many—and with good reason. It’s a time to gather with loved ones, share a hearty meal, and give thanks for all the good in our lives, large and small. Not only is the holiday enjoyable (and delicious!) in so many ways, but it's also a great opportunity to teach children what the holiday symbolizes: gratitude."
