Bully Prevention

STOP BULLYING

  • Bullying directly affects students’ ability to learn.
  • Bystanders can be powerful allies.
  • Bullying is not a “rite of passage” but a serious threat to student safety and well-being.
  • Effective bullying prevention efforts involve students, parents, teachers, and community members.
  • Anyone can bully, and anyone can be bullied.

During the week of October 25th, I visited 12 out of 18 ninth and tenth grade classes to present for National Bully Prevention month. A google form was created to gather their opinions/experiences with bullying. One of the questions asked 'have you ever been bullied?' 64 out of 197 students have experienced being bullied.

The bullying experience could have happened years ago or yesterday; however, it is important for you, as a guardian, to know the impacts bullying may have on your child. It is imperative to know the status of your child; it takes a community wide approach. If you suspect that your child may have been bullied or is bullying others, please reach out to school support staff. We want to ensure that students feel heard and safe. Remember, during these times, it is precious when your child is vulnerable with you. Stay present through their truth.

Global Youth Institute

Global Youth Institute

Each year, over 200 exceptional high school students from around the world are selected to participate in the Global Youth Institute hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation.

Selected students and their teachers/mentors will attend this exciting virtual event at which they interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates and discuss pressing food security and agricultural issues with international experts.

Our students presented to a panel of experts. Student delegates present and discuss their findings with international experts and their peers, connect with other students from around the world, tour cutting-edge industrial and research facilities, and take part in symposium discussions with global leaders in science, industry, and policy.

Stop The Spread - PGCPS Mobile Vaccination Clinics

Starting Monday, Nov. 8, the Prince George’s County Health Department, in partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), will hold after-school vaccination clinics for individuals age five and older at 15 high schools. A list of mobile clinics operating at elementary schools will be announced shortly.

COVID-19 vaccinations at the school mobile clinics will be free and available to any eligible Prince George’s County resident. Clinics will operate at multiple schools each day Monday through Friday through mid-December for first doses and second doses; additional dates and locations may be added. Families are encouraged to take their children to the nearest school providing the vaccine. Each clinic will have Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine supply available; the two-dose Pfizer vaccine is currently the only vaccine with U.S. Food and Drug Administration-authorization for use in children five to 11.

The COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Sports and Learning Complex will also provide vaccines to individuals five and older; walk-ins are accepted.

Appointment scheduling for the school mobile clinics will be available soon. Walk-ins will also be accepted, but appointments are encouraged. Individuals younger than 18 receiving vaccinations must have a parent or legal guardian complete the appropriate consent form and bring it to the clinic:

Free COVID-19 vaccines for eligible children will also be available at many pediatricians’ offices, retail and grocery store pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare providers. Find nearby clinics by using the county’s vaccine clinic locator at mypgc.us/COVIDvaccine.
