St. Luke Weekly Memo
April 19 - 26, 2018
Christ is Risen, truly Risen! Happy and Blessed Easter to all. This month our theme is "Celebrate the Good News." We will focus on our Scripture Matthew 28: 6 "He is not here, for He is risen, just as he said." This month we will encourage people to Celebrate the good news of Catholic Education in their school. #challengeaccepted
Fourth Sunday of Easter - April 22
Sunday's Gospel Reading
John 10:11-18 Jesus says that he is the good shepherd who knows his sheep.
Family Connection
The Good Shepherd makes sacrifices for the sheep not because it is required, but because it is a choice. That sounds a lot like parenting and the dynamics of a healthy family life. Parents choose to make sacrifices for their children out of love, not obligation. Christian parents model and invite their children to choose to make sacrifices for other family members and for other people, acting out of love rather than obligation.
When you gather as a family, invite each family member to consider the attitude that permeates their participation in family life. Read a common examen, such as any of the following: Do we do family chores cheerfully and without having to be asked multiple times? Do we gladly share with others? Do we willingly contribute to the family good when asked? Read aloud Sunday’s Gospel, John 10:11-18. Discuss together how the example of the Good Shepherd might inspire your family life. Invite each family member to make a renewed commitment to one action/attitude to focus on in the upcoming week that shows that we will choose to follow the example of the Good Shepherd. Pray together that we will be able to honor our commitment. Pray together Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s Prayer for Generosity.

School News
Communication
As part of continuing to improve our communication between home, school and parish we ask that during the school day families contact the school directly with any time sensitive information such as pick, lunch, absence. Communication with your child's teacher is always encouraged and welcomed however if the information is time sensitive teachers may not get to the message in a timely manner. If your child(ren) will be absent please either enter their absence in Safe Arrival or phone the school at 780-922-5920 to let Mrs. Paula Rumley aware. During the day if you have a message you would like to pass along to your child (ex. not to take the bus, grandma will pick them up) please contact the school directly.
At times we have had students contact their parent/guardian directly through email or text messaging. With any information that staff should be aware of please encourage your child to come to the office and use our office phone. This helps us a school community provide the necessary supports and assistance for your child's needs to ensure their safety and well-being. Please encourage your child(ren) to follow this procedure.
We appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation.

Parent Council
Bedding Plants, Compost and Bottle Drive
Mark your calendars for May 12 when Parent Council will be hosting a plant sale, compost sale, and bottle drive. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to purchase your bedding plants and top grade compost all in time for Mother's Day! Order forms are going home with students today if you would like to purchase gift certificates that can be used at both the plant sale and at South Cooking Lake Greenhouse. This is a fundraiser that Parent Council runs to support activities within the school. Thank you in advance for your support.
