Touchdowns in the Classroom
Ms. Krenek - questioning, modeling of different ways to solve a problem, focus on student thinking prior to responding, sentence stems posted by level (Beginner, Advanced, Advanced High)
Ms. Martin - problem solving with partners, students used notebooks as a reference tool, time for collaboration was built into the lesson
Ms. Britton - room is full of visuals and anchor charts, students were engaged in "Math Talk," students were creating anchor charts, learning was occurring
Ms. Pope - 1 team - 1 problem, student were held accountable for participating in collaborative groups, each student in each group was working on the problem with scratch paper, the tone of the room was we are respectful and about "the business of learning," clear expectations about when to focus on the teacher - "yes - class - yes, yes,"
Ms. Pineda - students were collaborating, the work presented related to "real life," students were respectful to each other, student were engaged in the work
Kudos to this group of teachers for exemplifying student centered Math instruction.
