RCPS Reopening Plan
Sharing Information with the Rockingham County Community
Message from the Superintendent
Dear RCPS Community:
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have issued new isolation and quarantine guidelines for K-12 schools. The full health and safety plan can be viewed here.
Slides from the School Board presentation on January 10th can be viewed here.
With the recent surge of the Omicron variant, it is imperative that as a school community, we work together to keep our students and staff safe with limited interruption to schools. The trade-off for shorter timeframes requires adherence to the mitigation strategies listed below:
Students and staff who are ill need to stay home
Students and staff must correctly and consistently wear an appropriate mask
Additional robust mitigation measures—including, enhanced ventilation, high vaccination rates, and increased access to testing also keep our schools safe. For more information about vaccines and testing, visit:

We recognize that there is a great deal of concern about the rise in COVID-19 cases in our schools and community. Please know that we understand these concerns and are committed to maintaining a safe environment for students and staff. During this time, masks will remain mandatory. We appreciate our community’s patience as we navigate these challenging times.
Sincerely,
Oskar Scheikl
RCPS Superintendent
