RCPS Reopening Plan
Sharing Information with the Rockingham County Community
Message from the Superintendent
Dear RCPS Community,
As we begin another school year, we are excited to have all students back in person. Although the global COVID pandemic has impacted our schools and families in many ways, we have also been working diligently on many improvements to our learning environments. You will find a number of items related to COVID in this newsletter, as it is certainly on the forefront of our plans, but I also want to let you know about other projects we will be working on this year.
Our elementary schools will implement a new reading program referred to as LETRS that has shown tremendous success in other states and in some RCPS pilot projects.
At the middle school level, we are working on strategies to improve math outcomes for all students in coordination with Harvard University's Proving Ground project, using rigorous data analysis of outcomes to inform our decisions.
Finally, we have been selected as a national demonstration site for improving mental and behavioral health services and an increase in hands-on learning opportunities. Students learn best when they are in a safe and caring environment that is challenging and involves hands-on activities that allow students to apply the information and skills they learn.
Throughout the year, will focus on student and staff safety. In order to create safe environments for all staff and students, we have implemented a number of strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and we are exploring others for the future that may get us back to a less restrictive environment.
