LPES PARENT COMMUNICATION
AUGUST 25, 2017
First Day of School
Buses
Bus cards were mailed home, so please review bus numbers and times with your child. If there are any errors or questions, please contact CMD @ 610- 323-5020.
During the first few days of schools, please expect delays in pick-up and drop-off. Please have your student to the bus stop at least 5 minutes before arrival time in the morning and expect some delays at dismissal. If you experience a delay of fifteen minutes or more, please contact our main office @ 610-323-7510. We will inform parents via SchoolMessenger email system should bus delays occur in leaving LPES. However, most delays take place once the bus has departed LPES. We notify parents of these delays via SchoolMessenger email system as soon as we are made aware of the delay within the community. It is an excellent idea to provide a current email address and telephone number to your PowerSchool account, so you receive important information.
Parent Drop-off
- Car line begins in the morning at 8:30. Students should not be dropped off before 8:30 am. Staff members are not in place to adequately supervise students before this time.
- Parents who elect to drive their students to LPES may drive around to the rear of the building (main entrance) and drop their child off between 8:30-8:55 am.
- Students who arrive after 9:00 am are considered tardy.
- When using the car line, please plan for your student(s) to be able to exit/enter the car on the right-hand side of the vehicle, so they do not exit/enter into traffic. Students are to exit their vehicle and walk along the sidewalk.
Parent Pick-up
- We ask that each driver move down as far as possible before we load the children.
- Please hang your car placard on your rearview mirror visible for staff to view your child's name. If you do not have a school issued placard, please be prepared to show your ID.
- If you are in need of a car placard, please contact the main office at 610-323-7510 Ext. 4510.
- Parents are asked to stay in their vehicles when picking up children. It creates confusion when parents are trying to pick up children from the sidewalk. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the car line.
- Unless you have a particular need to enter the main office after 3:15 pm, please refrain from coming into the office to pick up your child.
- When using the car line, please plan for your student(s) to be able to exit/enter the car on the right-hand side of the vehicle, so they do not exit/enter into traffic.
- Please do not skip the line or drive up the exit lane because this causes a serious safety issue.
- Awaiting cars should extend the line around the side lot as illustrated below and not on Buchert Road.
- Thank you in advance for supporting our procedures designed to keep everyone safe and alleviate community traffic.
School Meals
Our lunch program begins on August 28.
- Students may pack or purchase lunch. The cost of lunch is $2.70. Please do not send in any glass containers or bottles.
- Free or reduced lunch status from the 2017-2018 school year is maintained until October 2017.
- Parents may visit the district’s website to access the online meal payment system via mySchoolBucks.
- The breakfast program does not begin until August 29. The cost of breakfast is $1.70. A child who receives free or reduced lunch is also eligible for free or reduced breakfast.

FROM THE HEALTH ROOM
Welcome back to a brand new school year! Thank you for completing our new online emergency card. Please remember to notify us throughout the year as your contact information changes. It is important for the school to have updated information so we can reach you in the case of an emergency.
Thank you to those who returned dental exam cards.
The State of Pennsylvania requires the following while in elementary school:
A DENTAL EXAM in grade 3
If you have not done so, please make an appointment for your school age child. If we do not receive a completed exam form, your child will be scheduled for the examination during school hours. Forms may be obtained from the nurse’s office.
MEDICATIONS may be given in school if they are accompanied by a written physician’s order and signed parent permission form. A physician’s order is needed for both over the counter and prescription medications. All medication should be brought to school by a parent. If this is not possible, please place the original medication package in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and the amount of medication contained within. Medication forms can be found on our website or obtained from the school nurse. STUDENTS MAY NOT CARRY DAILY OVER THE COUNTER OR PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS IN THEIR BACKPACKS UNLESS ORDERED BY A PHYSICIAN.
COUGH DROPS may be brought to school by students as long as they are accompanied by a signed parent permission note. Cough drops will be kept on the teacher’s desk until needed.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy school year! Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.
