Guidelines to using Social Media
The Do's and Don'ts of Using Social Media
How much is too much?
Social Media can be both a valuable asset for sharing information and something to be feared when information falls into the wrong hands. This flyer is for those first time and veteran social media users that need a little guidance on what and what not to post on sites such as (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
The Do's and Don'ts
Absolutely no person information!
For all of us season social media users, sharing information comes quite easy. However, there is a fine line when it comes to how much information is too much. You should never under any circumstances share personal information such as: home address, credit card and debit card numbers, or social security numbers. Remember, once it is up everyone can see!
Watch what you post online.
That party last night what great and you have pictures of you and your friends doing crazy things huh? Well next thing you know that job you were next in line for has passed you up because your potential employer did a little digging on your social media page. What did he/she see? Exactly what you would not want he/she to see. Having fun is all good and well, but be very cautious what you post as it could be a potential backlash.
Be sure to set up privacy settings
As the picture states, you never know who is watching your profiles and just waiting for the right moment to strike! Always make sure you have a strong password and set strict privacy settings to prevent getting "hacked".
Know who your children communicate with.
Parents, you need to be very cautious of who your underage kids are talking to on these websites. It is very easy to lie about who people say they are and some kids are very impressionable. Make a point to know who your child/children are talking to.
Establish rules and regulations
Once again, parents it is imperative that you know what your child is doing when it comes to social media. You must set boundaries of what they can and cannot post. Leaving an underage adolescent to their own devices can be a very bad thing when it comes to social media sites.
Do not post anything you would not want family to see
It is all too common to see someone post something vile and vulgar on these websites. Next thing you know, your aunt or your mother is calling you and giving you a stern talking to because of something you out up on the internet. Remember, once it's on the internet it's there to stay. Don't post anything you would not want your mother to see or hear about.
