Mason Gazette
December 18, 2017
Dear Mason Families,
I hope this message finds everyone already enjoying their weekend! I am certain we all are looking forward to next week as it is the last week before our Holiday break! Let's finish strong and continue to come to school focused on Being a Learner, Being a Leader and Being Kind!
Congratulations to Mr. Hipple and all our Music/Choir students. They did an amazing job this week at their Winter Concert; can't wait to hear everyone again in the Spring!
Have a great weekend,
Roy

Notes From The Office
Drop off and Pick ups
Parents should say goodbye to their children outside of the building. We ask that parents do not enter the building with their child and accompany them to their classroom in the mornings. When there is an indoor admittance day due to rain or cold temperatures, please do not wait inside with your children. We have adult supervision present, and too many bodies make for an over congested and unsafe environment.
If you are picking your student up early please call the office ahead of time, meet your student in the office and sign them out. We ask that you not go to the classroom so we can minimize classroom disruptions. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Mason safe during drop off and pick up.
December PBIS Behavior Challenge
Our Character word for the month of December is Citizenship and our PBIS Focus is Arrival/Departure and Attendance. Keep up the great work on getting to school and being on time. Our challenge ends December 22nd. Everyone with perfect attendance will get a special attendance tag.
Attendance Reminder
We all run late occasionally, but please remember to sign your child in at the office upon arrival or let the office know if your student will not be in school by calling the attendance line at 313-432-4401 before 9 AM to report the absence.
Thank you for your help!
Brrrr.......It's Cold Out!!
Mason students go outdoors for recess every day throughout the school year, unless it's raining hard or the windchill is below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Please be sure that your child leaves for school dressed properly for the weather.
Please dress your child with a hat and gloves and a winter coat when the weather is frigid. We also ask that you write your child's name on his or her gloves, hats, boots and coat. Our Lost and Found fills up quickly!
Important Health Reminders
Head Lice Reminder - There is an increase prevalence of head lice during the fall and winter months due to sharing hats and scarves. Although, an annoying problem, head lice should not cause undue alarm.
Head lice are not a sign of poor hygiene and they do not transmit disease. Spread from one child to another can occur during direct head to head contact or by sharing of personal items such as combs, brushes, caps or helmets.
The most common symptom of head lice is itching and head scratching, particularly at night. Red bite marks or sores may also be noticed on the scalp. If you suspect that your child has head lice, he or she should be examined by your health care provider. Safe and effective products to treat head lice are available both over the counter and by doctor’s prescription. It is important to follow the directions carefully. In addition, use a fine-tooth comb or special nit comb to help remove the eggs (nits) from the hair. You can also check your child’s scalp weekly when the hair is wet to see if there are any new head lice. Parents should also wash in hot water or dry-clean all recently worn clothing, hats, used bedding, and towels. Personal care items such as combs, brushes and hair clips should also be washed in hot water. Toys, such as stuffed animals, can be put into a tightly closed plastic bag for 14 days or placed in a hot dryer for 30 minutes to kill the lice.
Girl Power & Boy Power at Mason
Girl Power/Boy Power Attention all 5th grade girls and boys! Starting in January Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Fox will be resuming Girl Power and Boy Power.
