The Hungate Echo
Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Spring Term - Issue 8

A word from Mr Broom
As you will have probably noticed, school looks a little different than before the break. In preparation for our building works commencing in the summer, several trees have been felled around the site and the shrubs at the front of school have been cut back or cleared. Rest assured that all trees removed will be replaced (often 2 for 1) in other locations on the school site once the building works has finished.
It's been project launch week in school with lots of exciting activities aimed at engaging our children in their learning. It's certainly had a positive impact and I've been visited by many children this week who have shared their work with me. Lots of proud moments and, in some cases, phone calls home to parents to say how proud we are of them.
Our teachers have also been working incredibly hard with colleagues from Kirk Fenton Primary School, taking a look at children's work in books and focussing on how we can make our feedback to children more specific.
Next week, I'll be completing lesson observations and the teachers will be getting ready for parent consultation meetings. A separate letter will be out to share this information with you.
Have a great week.

The Sherburn Hungate Garden Project - It's Competition Time
We're looking to our children to name this new garden and the Lions are hosting a competition to do just that. If you'd like to get involved over the holidays, click on the terms and entry form files below. The the best of luck to all our competition entries.
School Attendance
It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!
Our attendance for this week is 94.4%, which is well short of our 96% target. Let's hope that next week we'll meet it together.
We know that there's lots of bugs around because we've had staff illness too. However, please help us by sending your children to school when they only have sniffles. If they're not well enough to be here, we will send them home.
Our top attending class this week is Year 6 with 99.2%
