News & Notes from Mrs. Kapuchuck
It is hard to believe that two weeks of school have passed! Our students are doing an amazing job of getting back into the routines of school. There is positive energy in our school that can be felt the minute you walk through the door! There is always something special going on in our school! Children are designing and creating in our new maker space, making their way through our three sensory paths, building friendships and practicing social skills on the playground during our two recesses, and engaging in meaningful learning in their classrooms and throughout the school.
We have our first PTO meeting on Monday, September 9th at 6:30 pm in the library. We have a dynamic team of parents who work together to make sure our school has what it needs to meet the needs of all of our children.
This year, our PTO Board officers are Mandy O'Neill- President, Carrie Urso- Vice President, Dave Urso- Secretary, and Kehris Snead- Treasurer. During this meeting, we will be planning for our annual Fun Run, which is scheduled for Friday, October 4th. The Fun Run is an exciting way to raise funds that go directly into our school and our classrooms to benefit all children. We can't thank our PTO enough for all of their support! Soon, each child and staff member at MVES will receive a shirt from the PTO. The PTO funds teacher grants, charter buses for field trips, special luncheons and goodies for our teachers and staff, and so much more. Our PTO meetings are open to all MVES parents and we hope you'll join us as we kick off another exciting school year!
53 students had August birthdays at MVES! Many of these students were able to pick out their August Birthday Book today! If students were absent or missed getting their book today, they will be able to pick out a book on Tuesday morning. Next month, I will travel the school with a Birthday book cart so that all September birthday book students receive their book on the same day!
As students begin to check out books from the MVES library, they'll love for you to ask them about what they're reading. Here is a great article on how to instill a love of reading at home!

Reminders:
Eagle Awards- Any student may be nominated for an Eagle Award! These are given to students who have gone above and beyond to be the difference in the classroom as well as in our school. These students are sent to my office with their Eagle Award for a positive phone call home! These students also receive a picture to take home and a bracelet. I look forward to these phone calls again this year! They have been filled with laughter, tears of joy, and pride for our students. It is definitely one of the many highlights of our school day!
Attendance- If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the office at 433-1965, email mvesattendance@rockingham.k12.va.us, or send a written note to the school following the absence. The RCPS attendance policy has recently been updated and parents are no longer required to call the school and send a written note/email. If you are planning to take a vacation or your child will be out of school for an extended period of time, please let the office know and fill out a vacation approval form. Thank you!

Thank you for all of your excitement, enthusiasm, and support of our school! Mountain View is such a special place because of all of the people who work as a team to make school a wonderful experience for our students.
I hope all of you have a fun-filled three day weekend! We will see your children on Tuesday morning!

Parents Wanted!
MVES is looking for parents interested in being a part of the Title 1 Division Parent Advisory Council (D-PAC). Parents and reading specialists from Rockingham County meet three times a year for D-PAC. At each meeting parents will hear about fun ways to help and encourage their students at home. Materials and/or books will be provided for parents to take home. There is also time for parents to talk with reading specialists and ask any questions they may have about reading and writing. Meetings are held three times during the school year and happen in the evening.
Please contact Stephanie Knicely, reading specialist, if you would like more information about attending these meetings. sknicely@rockingham.k12.va.us
