The Weekly Update #4
October 20th, 2022
A Note from the AP
Hello and welcome to the Red Ribbon Week edition of our newsletter. One of our many goals at TISD is to keep our students safe. This includes educating students about healthy choices. This week we will target the dangers of drugs. Although this week is focused on "saying no" we will continue to monitor and educate students throughout their time at the junior high school.
Our students are bombarded with misinformation from all sides making them believe that drugs are cool or that everyone uses them. Please help us stop the influx of harmful substances into the lives of our adolescents. The use of vapes is growing and although we have not seen it yet at our campus I want to prevent students using them or any other harmful substances anywhere. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

E-cigarette Basics
E-cigarettes are devices that heat a liquid into an aerosol that the user inhales. The liquid usually has nicotine and flavoring in it, and other additives. The nicotine in e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes is addictive. E-cigarettes are considered tobacco products because most of them contain nicotine, which comes from tobacco.
Besides nicotine, e-cigarettes can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including: ultrafine particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs flavorants such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease volatile organic compounds heavy metals, such as nickel, tin, and lead.
Adolescent years are times of important brain development. Brain development begins during the growth of the fetus in the womb and continues through childhood and to about age 25. Nicotine exposure during adolescence and young adulthood can cause addiction and harm the developing brain.
