October 2015

Visiting Author-Patricia Polacco

What a privilege it was to have Patricia Polacco at our campus on September 21st & 22nd! Students enjoyed her unique storytelling as they learned about her family's keeping quilt, the meteor that landed in her grandparent's yard, Babushka's doll, and her rotten redheaded older brother. These family stories were woven into personal narratives that all became books! The best part of the visit was when each student got to make a wish on part of the meteor, better known as the wishing rock.

The Monster Book Fair is Coming!

The Book Fair will be held October 5-9, 2015 and we look forward to seeing you there! Students will be previewing and making their wish lists Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6. Students may shop during class shopping times Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8 and all day Friday, October 9 (7:30am to 3:30pm). Parents and grandparents can join us for lunch and shopping at our “Monster Book-nic” on Wednesday, October 7 during student lunches (10:30am-1:30pm). Also, remember to visit the book fair during our BPE PTA Fall Family Event on Friday, October 9 (6:00-8:00pm). The book fair will close at 8:00pm on Friday. http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/bpes

In the Library this month...

In addition to the Book Fair this month, students will be exploring different genres, researching important Texas figures, and learning more about the Keller ISD Cowpoke and Chuckwagon Book Lists. Third and Fourth graders will have the opportunity to join the Bluebonnet Book Club and hear all about BPES' Battle of the Books Contest. Also, our iCentre stations will be up and running again by the end of the month. If your students haven't gotten started on their Reading Bingo Blackout boards, now's the perfect time to start!
