Rocket Family News

Rowe Lane News Updates
It's hard to believe we only have three more weeks left of the second nine-weeks. Planning for the third nine weeks will begin in early December. Parents/guardians will have the opportunity to change their child's method of instruction for the third nine-weeks in December. Families will receive a link to a Google form on December 1st in order to capture these changes. The deadline to make changes to your child's learning preference is Wednesday, December 9th.
Currently, PfISD plans for our regular on-campus and virtual classes to resume Monday, November 30th after the Thanksgiving break. We are taking a proactive approach in case there is a need to resume all classes in a virtual setting upon our return. On Friday, November 20th, classroom teachers will send home essential student instructional materials & technology that might be needed by on-campus learners, should we resume in a virtual setting. Students will be expected to bring the instructional materials & technology back to campus on Monday, November 30th. This will be our district practice moving forward prior to all student breaks.
We wish you all a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving break! Don't forget, classes will resume Monday, November 30th.
Nurse Kim's Updates
Hello Rocket families! The State of Texas requires all Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th-grade students enrolled in a public school to have their vision and hearing screened. 5th-grade girls are also screened for scoliosis. This is usually done on campus by the school nurse or by the student’s physician during their yearly checkup.
I am making appointments for our virtual learners to come in and have their screenings done here at Rowe Lane. The students will have their temperature taken upon arrival and be required to wear a face mask when in the building. We will have parents wait outside while their child is being screened. Please click on the link below if you would like to sign your child up for an appointment. Thank you!

Online Student Art Portfolios
Hello Parents/Guardians,
Rowe Lane Art teachers are creating online student art portfolios on Artsonia.com. Artsonia manages student art portfolios in a safe and educational manner. Digital portfolios for students are in the works. We have uploaded most of the in-person student work since Oct. 13th and are in the process of uploading completed projects for virtual students who submit artwork through Canvas and/or Seesaw. We will update digital portfolios periodically, but please note that not every assignment will be included in the digital portfolios. This will be the primary way to view student art and it is completely optional for parents to sign up. We, Artsonia, Mrs. Clark & Mrs. Murphy, need your permission to publish student work. Until you provide permission, your child’s digital art portfolio will be unpublished and hidden. Please note, the end of the year art show will be digital and on Artsonia.com. If you create an account you will have access to your child’s digital portfolio, have access to add family to your child’s fan club, review any comments about artwork and support Rowe Lane’s Art program.
Please look for an email within the coming weeks from Artsonia.com inviting you to sign up and view your child’s art portfolio.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Clark & Mrs. Murphy

PfISD Updates, 11/17/2020
Dear PfISD Parents/Guardians,
Thanksgiving break is upon us. After 14 weeks of adjustments to virtual learning and in-person learning, I feel our students, teachers, and staff have earned a well-deserved break next week for the holiday. I hope you and your children all get some time to rest and recharge both mentally and physically to make the final three weeks of the semester an even greater success than the school year has been so far.
The challenges our students, teachers, and staff have overcome this year have been unique, and I have faith that we will be able to tackle any others that may come up because of how we have worked together.
However, if you are celebrating Thanksgiving this year, please do it safely and take a moment to think of all you have to be grateful for this year. I am thankful for the community we live in as PfISD has come together to support our students, teachers, and staff this year amid challenges.
If you can find a way to help others in need during this time of year, I encourage you to please do so. Your campuses may be hosting a canned food drive or collecting coats to give the less fortunate for the winter. Area food banks are in need of donations. Other charities also need assistance as the pandemic has impacted many organizations that help our communities.
Whatever you do during the break, please take precautions to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. We want all our community members to have a safe and healthy holiday season. The Austin Public Health Authority has created a flyer that offers risk guidance for gatherings. Please click below to view this helpful flyer.

Method of Instruction Changes
We are approaching our next deadline for parents/guardians to update or change their child's instruction method for the third 9-weeks grading period that begins January 6. If you would like to change how your child is receiving instruction, you must contact your campus registrar by December 9.
If your child is currently learning virtually, this is your chance to indicate you would like your child to return to on-campus learning beginning in January. Conversely, this also is another opportunity for you to switch your child from in-person learning to virtual.
It is important to note that parents/guardians can request to change their students' instructional settings at any time. However, the new change will not take place until the new grading period starts. Your campus registrar can help change the method of instruction setting upon request. After the deadline passes for each grading period, requests for changes must be directed to the principal for consideration.
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR DECISION OR UPDATE. Contact your campus registrar or student records specialist to do this or inquire what the procedure will be for your child's school.

2021-22 Instructional Calendar Survey
The Pflugerville ISD instructional calendar is the result of a framework developed through collaboration between community, staff, and district leadership. The framework is intended to balance the needs of all stakeholders, especially our students and teachers. Our District Academic Advisory Council (DAAC) is soliciting your feedback as part of their calendar development process. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and to make sure your voice is considered. Please use this link to review the draft 2021-2022 calendars and select the calendar you prefer. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DRAFTCAL2122
Upcoming PfISD Townhall
We recently completed a series of town hall meetings for our staff members. We had wonderful participation and received some helpful feedback and questions from many of our teachers and staffers. During these townhalls, our cabinet members were able to provide updates and answer questions from across the District on various topics.
We plan to utilize the townhall format for our PfISD community in December by hosting a PfISD Townhall for parents, staff, and other community members. More details will be provided when we have finalized plans for this event.
New Technology Help Desk Available
In an effort to provide more timely and direct Technology services to parents and students, PfISD Technology is launching a new Technology Help Desk system called "GetHelp." Students (or parents on behalf of their students) will enter requests for support in GetHelp and communicate directly with PfISD Technology team members. Requests should be entered using the student's email address associated with their District Google Account. Communication from technology team members will be sent to the student email address, so it will be necessary to regularly check the student email account for request responses or updates. Parents have the option of entering their phone number in the cell/extension# field located in the GetHelp ticket if they would like the Technology team to contact them, or simply enter '0'.
Attached are step by step instructions for accessing and submitting requests via GetHelp.

COVID-19 Update
We have received a handful of questions via Let's Talk asking to add discussion of COVID-19 to this week's agenda for the Board Meeting. I want you all to know that the District is in constant communication with the Austin Public Health Authority and is monitoring the situation as we see the number of positive cases go up in the area.
We are still following our protocols and procedures that we have in place to make sure our buildings and facilities are clean and are encouraging everyone to wear masks and wash their hands regularly.
Some have asked if we will put a cap on the number or percentage of students allowed to participate in in-person learning. At this time, we do not have the authority from TEA to cap the percent of students attending in-person learning.
If we make any changes to our protocols and procedures, we will immediately communicate those modifications to our community. Additionally, if we decide there is a need to close any of our campuses, we will notify that campus community immediately.
Please continue to socially distance as much as possible. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. If we all play our part, we can come together as a community to help slow the spread of COVID-19, and together we can make a difference.
Together we are strong. Together we are a Pfamily. Together we can do anything.
In the best interest of children,
Dr. Douglas Killian
PfISD Superintendent of Schools

• Caldwell Elementary
• Copperfield Elementary
• Dessau Middle School
• Highland Park Elementary
• Kelly Lane Middle School
• Northwest Leadership Academy
• Park Crest Middle School
• Parmer Lane Elementary
• Pflugerville Elementary
