Community
Town Square Partners at Stone Coast Community Church
I often speak about every person or every small piece making a difference when everything is added up at the end. Working together with local communities we were able to send 30,000 pounds of supplies to the Florida Keys! Imagine the lives we have impacted! Check out some of the pictures below!

Cole Street Soccer Fields
I’m sure many of you are aware that a student was hurt this past week at the Cole Street Varsity Soccer Field. In order to assure the safety of our athletes, we responded immediately by:
Requesting that coaches speak with their athletes regarding the incident
Alerting Athletic Directors, Coaches in the South Coast Conference, and the State Soccer Officials Association to the issue
Notifying the Seekonk Parks and Recreation Department and Department of Public Works
Requesting that the fields be checked for any safety issues
Despite these actions, another metal spike was found on the adjacent field the following day. Therefore, a meeting was held with representatives from the Parks and Recreation Department, the Department of Public works, and the Seekonk School Department to combine efforts in addressing these concerns. As an extra precaution, the following actions are now being taken:
Increasing the frequency (and number of people) in the inspection of the soccer fields
Reiterating that trash cans are prohibited on any area of either field
Sweeping both fields with metal detectors
Please understand that the Seekonk School, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works Departments will continue to work together to achieve what we all consider to be our top priority - the safety of our children.

Inspiration is everywhere!
Guidance - Mrs. Whatley
Students should be bringing home a school progress report next Tuesday, October 3rd. Mid-quarter grades will also be available online in the Parent Plusportal. We still have a number of families that have not activated their parent Plusportal account. In addition to seeing grades, parents can view your student's attendance record, daily schedule, scores and contact information. Please activate your account and help to monitor your student's progress. Information has been emailed to each family with an inactive account this year through the sender SPS-SIS. Contact Mrs. Whatley for assistance with account access.
All grade 10 students received a Student Guide to the PSAT this week in their Geometry class. All grade 10 students will be taking the PSAT at SHS on October 11th from 7:30-11:30 AM. The district is providing the PSAT opportunity at no cost to all sophomores.
Any Junior who is interested in taking the PSAT on October 11th should register by bringing in a check to Mrs. Powers in the guidance office by October 4th. A check for $16 payable to the Town of Seekonk will serve as the registration. Juniors on free or reduced lunch should see their guidance counselor for a fee waiver if they want to take the PSAT.

warrior cries
Warrior cries are shout outs to staff and students here at Seekonk High School. They are our way of recognizing hard work, creative thinking, and characteristics that make us proud to be part of this community. Please contact Dr. Jones if you wish to give a "warrior cry" to someone!
Mrs. Angelini...for "her constant willingness to help staff and students whenever the need arises. From being the advisor for Student Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) to assisting faculty in ways to help improve their instruction to assisting class advisors when there is a need; Mrs. Angelini continues to be a modest, important member of the Seekonk High School faculty." -Dr. Jones
College and Career readiness - Mrs. Fitzgerald
Law Enforcement Opportunity!
The East Providence Police Explorer Post 750 will be holding its first meeting of the year on October 4th from 6:30-8:30 at Breed Hall, 610 Waterman Avenue, east Providence. Students interested in careers in law enforcement are encouraged to attend.
Local Professionals Needed to Help Guide Students' Career Exploration!
Can you help a student make more informed choices about their career and college plans? Consider volunteering to be a job shadow host and/or the subject of an informational interview. We will put your name on a list of possible contacts for students interested in doing in depth career exploration.
FYI: Job shadow hosts allow a student to visit you at your place of business to get a first-hand look at the job and have time to ask questions and get expert advice. Informational Interviewees would come to Seekonk High School to meet with a student or small group of students who are interested in knowing more about your line of work. There is no minimum time commitment in either role--this is done at your convenience.
Anyone wishing to be on the list must consent to a CORI (background) check, which can be processed at the Main Office.
Feel free to spread the word to your friends, neighbors, and SHS alumni.
Questions? Please contact Janet Fitzgerald, Transition Coordinator, 508-336-7272, ext. 62459
spotlight volunteer!
Tracy Patterson
Tracy Paterson, Head of Customer Experience, moo.com, Providence, RI (online design and print company) is our very first spotlight volunteer. She has indicated that she would be happy to work with students on identifying possible carers after high school. Here are some brief facts about Tracy's background and how she is willing to help students:
- Grew up in Seekonk, MA, Graduated from Seekonk High School, class of '88; Bachelors Degree in Communications from Ithaca College; lived in England for 16 years , moved with family back to Seekonk 6 years ago.
- Available to host a job shadow or be an informational interviewee; good fit for students interested in brand development, marketing, business, statistics, sociology or user experience design.
- Best career advice I've ever received is to try as many new things as possible and to experiment. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I graduated high school, and was still unsure when I graduated college. It's only by doing different things that I've learned about myself and what I like doing and what fulfills me and keeps me engaged.
Thank you for your willingness to assist students in finding success by offering them the possibility of new experiences.

The biggest story of the Fall Season so far has to be the undefeated spectacular seasons of the Boys JV and Varsity Soccer teams. Coach Matt McCartin’s Varsity team now sits at 8-0 and atop the South Coast Conference. A strong defense has been backed up with Goalkeeper Luke Robitaille. A balanced scoring attack has featured Jared Cabral, Ethan Paiva, and Rony Morales. Coach Mike DaSilva’s JV Boys are 7-0 behind the high scoring of Alejuandro Tabares, Adam Horowitz and Sanyam Shilkaper.
To kick off the second year of Seekonk High School’s Unified Basketball season, Unified Coordinator and Head Coach Kristin Nelson hosted a Leadership Breakfast in Seekonk High School cafeteria Wednesday. The partners took part in a Leadership presentation and then meet with this year’s athletes.
There are many Seekonk High School Fall Sports teams in contention for post season berths including Coach Mike Petrucci’s 4-6 Golf team who will be traveling to Touisett Country Club today to take on the Case Cardinals. The Warriors fell to Apponequet and Bourne this week despite the fine play from Ben Brady and Connor Dowty.
Coach Pellerin’s Field Hockey team will be hosting Fairhaven this afternoon. The Warriors ran their record to 2-2 on the season on Wednesday dominating Case 5-2. Jenna Dunphy, who had her first varsity goal, along with Mackenzie Rogers and Hannah Forrest had outstanding performances. Liza Gagnon scored two goals and Alyssa Poland and Hannah Desmarais had a goal each.
The 5-3 Seekonk Girls Soccer team had a busy week downing Case 6-0 on Monday and defeated the Lady Blue Devils of Fairhaven Wednesday 2-1. Trinity Cloud continues her hot scoring scoring in each one of the matches.
Finally, the Seekonk High football team will travel to Wareham for a crucial SCC showdown. Last Friday, the Warriors shook off a sluggish start and downed the Apponequet Lakers 29-7. Quarterback Terry Smith threw four touchdown passes, two to Senior Cam Sears, and the others to fellow Seniors Spenser Dowty and Shane Smith. Glenn Catt caused and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
