Alpha Delta Kappa ******* Beta Xi
August 2014
Welcome back! How great to know that we are beginning a new biennium in A∆K, a new school year, and a new chance each day to focus on what matters most.
THEME
Your new theme for 2014-2015 is one that should remind you to keep improving in all areas of your life. Stick to What Matters Most
LOGO
The logo that best represents this idea is our feathered friend -- the bird, be that the sweet song bird or the iconic wise owl that so often represents the teacher. They both stick to the limb in all weathers and contribute to our community.
MEETING
Our first meeting will be Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the home of Gail Swarthout, 4320 Anderson Road, Opelika, at 6:00. (745-3808) As in the past, this will be a dinner meeting with your wonderful salads and desserts. As of today, we should have 18 members there and 6 guests. If you are bringing a guest, please let Gail know soon because of seating.
PROGRAM
Unlike our other picnic opening dates, we will have a special program. A group of 5 members from AACT, Auburn Area Community Theatre, will eat with us, then take 15-20 mins. to perform their recent production of a scene from The Dixie Swim Club by Jones, Hope, & Wooten. The 4 actresses are all retired teachers, and the director is my oldest daughter, Ashley Hansana. This may introduce you to a new area where you can volunteer.
REGIONAL MINI-SCHOLARSHIPS
Our Gulf Region has 6 mini-scholarships worth $500 each for any member whether actively engaged in teaching or not. The purpose of the Mini-Scholarship program is specifically for a sister to attend a non-Alpha Delta Kappa sponsored conference, convention, seminar, workshop, or non-credit class. The first 3 scholarships will be for events taking place between Nov.15 and May 15. The application deadline for these first 3 should be postmarked no later than October 15. Contact me if you are interested in applying.
