Hello Families of Kettle Lake,

We celebrated the end of September with the Cougar Cool Book Giveaway. Two students from each classroom were able to select a brand new book during lunch to take home. Students continue to earn Cougar Cool tickets/awards to enter the drawing which will take place once a month. Ask you child if they know the Cougar Pledge. Many of them even know how to do it in sign language!

Cougar Pledge

I know the way.

I can show the way.

I am SAFE.

I am RESPONSIBLE.

I am KIND.

I am Cougar Cool!

Please see the District Screener UPDATE that was shared earlier this week. We are welcoming Mindy Klein to our office team as our Health and Safety Paraprofessional to support us throughout the year. She may be in contact with you as needed in regards to health and safety.

Welcome Back!

August 19, 2020

Hello Kettle Lake Families,

Welcome back! We are so excited for the start of this school year and hope that you’ve had a wonderful summer with family and friends. We look forward to making memories with you all soon at Kettle Lake Elementary.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been out of school for five months. I am so grateful for the time I’ve had with my family. Even though my husband continued to work as an essential worker in supply chain management for Spectrum Health Hospital, I was able to be home with my two children Grayson (4th Grade) and Sylvia (3rd Grade). Balancing it all was challenging at times but I wouldn’t trade the memories for anything. We are all looking forward to getting back to school. I will miss our relaxed schedule but am ready to embrace our new normal.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 25 @ 8:50am-3:45pm. Our doors open at 8:35am for breakfast and 8:40am for students being dropped off. Please review our new Arrival and Dismissal Procedure. If your child has any medical/allergy concerns or needs to take medication at school, please make sure to call the office to let us know to ensure we have appropriate documentation and action plans on file. Thank you for your help with this!

The Kettle Lake team is excited to welcome you all this school year! They have been busy getting their classrooms ready and planning for learning. We are welcoming Dionna Damaskos as a part time Intervention Specialist, Laura Katerburg part time as a Social Worker, Bari Kane part time as a Student Support Specialist, and Laura Pittman as a long term substitute for Britt Racinski in First Grade. Things may look a little different this year with wearing masks and spreading out seating in the classrooms, but our dedication to creating a warm and welcoming environment for our students will continue to be our top priority.

Students at Kettle Lake will have a variety of learning both academically and socially. We have researched and implemented a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across the district. This approach to instruction and behavior is a framework, which allows levels of assistance and teaching for all students. As a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) school, we have consistent school expectations explicitly taught, practiced, reinforced, and posted around our school. Students will be positively acknowledged as they demonstrate the expected behaviors. Attached to this email is a copy of our Kettle Lake Matrix with the Cougar Promise, which outlines our expectations at Kettle Lake Elementary. Please talk to your children about these expectations before and throughout the school year.

Our district is also excited to announce that we will have a new math curriculum this year. Ready Math was chosen as a common curriculum for grades K-8. Our teachers have had professional development over the summer to help prepare for a successful launch. There is a lot of excitement around this program for our kids!

Please begin teaching your child how to wear a mask! Make sure your child knows that we are doing this to help make sure everyone stays safe. We have compiled Safety Information and Procedures that will also be implemented into our school day.

A couple changes that you should be aware of are:

  • No adults will be allowed into the school building.

  • Buses ONLY in the front lot along Whitneyville.

  • Arrival and Dismissal Procedures are NEW!

  • There will be NO microwaves in the cafeteria/classroom for students to use.

  • Lanyards have been purchased by the KL PTO for your child to attach their mask and wear at school. This lanyard must stay at school!

  • PTO calendar events and fundraisers have been postponed until further notice.

Thank you all for your patience as we navigate our way through the school year. We are grateful for your support and grace as we embark on this journey together. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon!
