Message from the Principal
I'd like to remind everyone that the state-wide PARCC assessment will start this week, with all 3rd-5th grade students taking a total of tests in math and language arts. We know that this assessment will be challenging, given the rigorous Common Core State Standards, so please encourage your child to simply try their best. Testing will begin each day at 9AM, so we ask that you please ensure that your students are on time each day. Students who arrive late will be asked to remain in an alternate location until their class is done testing and will be required to make up the test on another day.
There is a special event that I'd like to invite you to, hoping for a packed house! On Wednesday, March 18th, we've invited expert Dr. Zitlali Morales to speak to our community about the benefits from bilingualism. As Komensky embarks on our journey towards a Dual Language Program (August 2016), we hope to come together as a community to learn more about its benefits. Please join us for this event, which will be offered in both Spanish and English. Refreshments and childcare will be available.
Don't forget that many of our teachers are using social media to offer you a "window into their classrooms." By "liking" their pages, you can stay connected and know what is happening at school every day. Here are a few pages to check out:
- Mr. Gomez - 1st Grade
- Ms. Dana and Ms. Dee - DLP
- Ms. Ricchio - 2nd Grade
- Mrs. Medina and Mrs. Richter - 1st Grade
- Mr. King and Mr. Kozin - 5th Grade
- Mrs. Kelm - 1st Grade
Finally, I'd like to wrap up with a reminder of the upcoming spring break. There will be no school beginning on Friday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 12th. Students will be able to take their 1:1 devices home in order to spend time reading and practicing mathematics concepts daily. Thank you for your continued support!
Best wishes for a great week!
