Referendum Update
November 5, 2019
Dear Owatonna Public Schools Parents and Community Members,
I am thrilled to report that both our November 5 ballot requests were approved by voters: Q1 for a new high school passed with 55.71% yes votes, and Q2 to repurpose the current high school passed with 51.50% yes votes. We are overjoyed and so very grateful!
Thank you to everyone who took time to learn about the referendum, share information with others and go to the polls. This vote reinforces that our community is Owatonna Proud!
You can read the full press release here. Planning will begin soon - but first, we celebrate. We listened to our community, and we responded. The result will be a new high school that will be a true community asset in many ways, and a repurposed existing high school that will serve both the district and the community.
I am always proud to be the Owatonna Public School superintendent, but today I may be just a teeny bit prouder. Thank you for your support, your commitment and your connection to our schools and our students.
Sincerely,
Jeff Elstad
Superintendent
