Mrs. McDaniel's Memo
Friday, October 9th
Please Welcome Kiley Simmons
Our class is going to have a student teacher. Kiley Simmons will be working in our class from October 26th-Winter Break. She will be taking over the lessons soon, since her visit with us is short. I will be co-teaching with her to assist her in her practice of becoming a teacher. Please welcome her.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
My name is Miss Simmons and starting on October 12th, I will begin my second student teaching placement in Mrs. McDaniel’s classroom. I currently attend Marian University in Indianapolis, and I just finished my first student teaching placement at Perry-Worth Elementary in Lebanon.
Throughout my time at Marian University, I have worked with nearly all elementary grade levels (Pre-school and Kindergarten included) and feel confident in my ability to adapt to different teaching/learning techniques. In addition to these experiences, I worked for the Summer Learning Institute, which is a Marian program that allows future, current, and retired educators to collaborate and teach together at multiple organizations and summer schools. This program lasted all summer and was focused around math content and activities. With each experience, I grow as a teacher and expand my knowledge to help shape me into a well-rounded educator.
I have no doubt that we will have a great learning experience over the next few weeks at Stonegate Elementary, and I look forward to getting to know and learn from your child!
Students’ needs come first, so if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by e-mail
Thank you for your time,
Kiley Simmons
Literacy
Reading-
We continue to work on comparing and contrasting different things in our readers. We are almost finished with biography readers and will soon move on to Historical Fiction.
Writing-
Our next writing unit will be informational writing. We will be writing about what the students are "experts" in and this will help with our Specialties project.
Grammar-
Our grammar focus this week was the 4-types of sentences.
We will be moving on to verbs next week.
Home Writing Journals-
You should have seen the October journal topics come home in your child's mailbox. Don't forget that you can always print them off of my canvas page if you loose it.
