The mission of Lakeview Elementary is to ensure each and every learner GROWS the knowledge and skills essential to achieving their full potential.

New attendance procedure
Our attendance procedures for the School District of South Milwaukee have changed. Starting immediately, if your child has any symptoms (including non-Covid symptoms), the only way to report the student's absence is by using this link. You will need to complete this by 8:30 a.m. anytime your student will be absent because of illness. If multiple students from your household will be absent due to illness, you will need to complete it once for each student. This link will be available on the Lakeview website as well as family newsletters from now on. This will help us be more responsive to you, our families, with our Covid protocols.
If your student is not missing school due to symptoms (for example, a dentist appointment), please continue to call the Lakeview office.

PTO This Week!
Many families have received the "Your child is a close contact and cannot be in school" message. Getting your child(ren) vaccinated is a way to keep students in school more often, even when identified as a close contact. This is happening right now, especially with our older students at Lakeview. Vaccination remains a personal choice, but if you are considering vaccination, I encourage you do schedule an appointment at a local provider now.
This Week's Golden Lions!
There were 46 Golden Lions awarded to students since our last newsletter. Here are the descriptions for each of those Golden Lions. Our students demonstrate GREAT character at Lakeview!
• Leah has already learned a verse to one of our concert songs! Now that's an engaged learner! Great job Leah!
• Gavin recognizes all the snap words on the white cards! Keep up the great work!
• Caleb shows he is engaged by recognizing all the snap words on the pink cards!
• Ben shows he is engaged by recognizing all the snap words on the pink cards!
• Gavin shows he is engaged by recognizing all the snap words on the pink cards!
• Matthew does a great job coming to the carpet ready to learn every day. He also does a great job staying focused even when if friends are distracting around him. Matthew demonstrates Golden Lion Behavior every day, but today I want to especially recognize him for doing a great job!
• Dora recognized all the snap words on the green cards!
• Brooke recognizes all the snap words on the green cards!
• Makaylee was so engaged learning the words to one of our concert songs! She had her finger following the words and learned two verses AND the refrain! Great job!
• Emiya was doing such a great job watching the words as we learned our concert music. He was really engaged! Great job Emiya!
• Saphire was so engaged in her phonics work for the entire work time!
• Ben shows he is engaged by recognizing all the snap words on the purple cards!
• Addie shows she is engaged by recognizing all the snap words on the purple cards!
• Tayvin worked so hard on completing his MAP test and was so engaged.
• Mason worked very hard on getting his MAP test completed and was so engaged!
• Jeremiah used yarn and scissors safely in Art class. He worked hard to learn a new skill (creating a pom pom) and listened to instructions respectfully. Keep up the great work, Jeremiah!
• During Math MAP testing, Besim stayed very focused and engaged during the entire assessment! He took the time to read each question and potential answer, and he even used scratch paper to show his work. His hard work paid off, and he ended up beating his goal! Way to go, Besim! :)
• Aksana is an excellent listener, and is respectful to the teachers and other students. Keep up the great work, Aksana!
• Kyeli followed instructions and focused on her work during Art class. She always puts in her best effort on artwork. Keep it up, Kyeli!
• I often work with Ariella in reading and writing. She is always engaged and eager to learn. She tries her best all the time. I am so proud that she is growing as a reader and writer.
• I often work with Mia in reading and writing. She is eager to learn and often uses great strategies. I am so proud that she is growing as a reader and writer.
• Jayden has been diligently engaging in his at home work. Thank you for being such a conscientious student.
• Caitlin has been diligently engaging in her at home work. Thank you for being such a conscientious student.
• Charlotte has been diligently engaging in her at home work. Thank you for being such a conscientious student.
• Damonei has been diligently engaging in his at home work. Thank you for being such a conscientious student.
• Johnny has been diligently engaging in his at home work. Thank you for being such a conscientious student.
• Ava has been diligently engaging in her at home work. Thank you for being such a conscientious student.
• Autumn, I have noticed that when I am teaching or if we are working independently, you are always engaged. Because of this, I have seen you grow in your learning this year. Keep up the great work. Thank you!
• Savanna saw that another student, that had been absent for a number of days, was struggling with some math problems. She jumped right into action, and did some teaching to help that student out. Thank you for being such a good classroom citizen and engaged student!
• Antonella was been putting tremendous effort into her daily work- especially since returning from Winter break. She has persevered in publishing her non-fiction book about Monkeys and knows many of the snap words that she has been practicing at home! Keep up the great job Antonella!
• Sophie wrote an amazing non-fiction book about Dolphins and it has a great deal of information that she has learned. As she was publishing and realized that she had a lot of information to write in her publishing book, she used positive self-talk to stay engaged and continue working on her book. It will be great when she is done!! Keep up the great job Sophie!
• Aksana has been working on practicing her snap words at home. When reading them with me, I could tell that she has been working hard on them as she could really say many of them in a snap! Keep up the great job Aksana!
• Sophie worked straight for one hour and forty five minutes to show her very best on the Map test. She thought, solved, double checked and did her very best! Sophie, that was real engagement and perseverance!

• Liam noticed a friend having trouble with her computer. He stepped in to help her problem solve. When they couldn't figure out the problem, Liam offered to let her use his computer. What a kind gesture! Thanks, Liam, for modeling respectful behavior.• Landen heard a friend ask me if we had any extra juice boxes he could have with his snack. Without hesitating, Landen offered his juice box to his friend. Landen commented to the class, "It feels good to be nice!" I couldn't agree with you more, Landen. I'm proud of you.
• Maddie wrote an informational book about Paw Patrol and was engaged in her writing and drawings for the whole work time!
• Tayvin was very engaged in our conversation about our read aloud. He did an awesome job sharing his thoughts and theories about our book!
• Tevin did an amazing job staying engaged in MAP testing, regardless of the many technical difficulties he faced. Thank you for being so patient Tevin!
• Brett listens closely in Art class and follows instructions. He is kind and respectful to teachers and other students. Keep it up, Brett!
• Payton works hard in Art class and gives her best effort. Keep up the great work, Payton!
• Mohamed worked hard on his Daily Doodle drawing and his snowflake artwork in Art class. He stayed focused on his art, and gave his best effort. Keep it up, Mohamed!
• Gio did a fantastic job of staying engaged in his book during our independent reading time. Even when it got noisy and the people around him could have distracted him, he continued to stay engaged. Way to go, Gio!
• Domenic made good choices during Art class. He stayed at his table spot and listened to instructions, then worked hard on his artwork. Keep it up, Domenic!
• Anna was safe with her tools in Art class, and she stayed at her table spot during the entire work time. Anna followed instructions and did her best. Keep it up, Anna!
• Lucy worked hard and stayed focused on her snowflake artwork during Art class. When she finished a task, she added extra details to her artwork to stay engaged. Great work, Lucy!
