Partnering with high school students to learn how to design and build.
Spirit Wear Collection!
Members of our 2020 graduating class are conducting a Spirit Wear collection throughout the district. Their hope is to collect new or gently used Sycamore gear - sweatpants, pajama pants, pajamas, hoodies, shirts, hats, shorts, etc.
This drive will run until November 15. If you have Sycamore gear to donate, please either send in with your child, or bring to the front office.
A big thank you to our Senior class for this wonderful idea. What a great way to give back to the Sycamore Schools community we all live in!
November is Mindfulness at Blue Ash Elementary
Mindfulness is...
• Intentionally paying close attention to whatever is happening as it is happening in the present moment
• Observing/noticing sensations, perceptions, thoughts, feelings in non-reactive way even if unpleasant, distressing, painful
• Acting with awareness instead of being on automatic pilot
• Mindfulness can be part of breathing, eating, brushing your teeth, feeling your feet on the ground and smelling the air if you’re outside taking a walk, and much more
Research has found improvements in anxiety, cognitive functioning and self-regulation among children trained in mindfulness to be mindful of what’s happening in the moment helps kids make sound decisions rather than be ruled by their emotions. When we’re calm, we can more easily be mindful and make good choices. (Why Mindfulness Practices Are Worth Your Instructional Time)
At BAE, both in the classrooms and media center, students are learning all about mindfulness. Staff are incorporating mindfulness into student’s experience in the classroom with mindfulness activities including breathing and gratitude journals; in the media center, Mrs. Kolde is bringing in mindfulness through new books, and on the playground at recess, teachers are bringing in mindfulness through yoga for select classrooms within grades.
For ideas on incorporating mindfulness at home, try the following at home with your child: Body Scan meditations, Spiderman meditations, Making glitter jars.
