MLK Parent Newsletter

May 29, 2022

LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!! June 3rd is the last day of School. Can you believe how fast this year flew by. Thank you parents for welcoming me here at MLK. It was a great year and I love being a Crusader.

This week will be a busy week that is for sure...

NO School Monday, Memorial Day!

Tuesday is our Zero Citation School Carnival. Students who received zero citations from April 19th until May 31st will be able to participate in this event.

Just a few reminders, Please encourage your student to drink plenty of water. The days are warm and we want them staying hydrated. Students are able to come to school with water!

Over the summer, we would like to encourage you to continue to work with your student(s). Have them read daily, write daily, and practice those basic math facts.

Thank You,

Mrs. Bekedam

Learning Director

Study Trips

This week on the 16th, Fourth grade went to the Zoo. Then on the 17th, our 6th graders went to an Event at The Fresno Grizzle Stadium called Making the Grade where they were able to watch some baseball.

6TH Grade Jr. High Orientation

On Thursday, May 26th. Our 6th graders headed off to either Woodrow or JFK. The students were there for junior high orientation. Once they arrived they were taken on a campus tour. Then students reported to the field area for outdoor games competing against other 6th grade classes from other schools in HESD. I know many students were nervous, but yet they are also excited too. We are so proud of our 6th graders here at MLK and wish them all the best next year.

Volunteer Information

We will be having end of the year field trips for all grade levels. If you are interested in chaperoning for your child's class, please stop by the office between 7:30-4:30 to pick up a Volunteer packet. All new applicants must submit a completed volunteer packet, a current Tuberculosis clearance, ID or Drivers License, your Covid Vaccine card if you have been vaccinated (or you must provide a negative test within 72 hours of the field trip). You will also need to pass a background check through KCOE LIVESCAN, even if you have been cleared by your employer. We will provide you with all the documentation required. The approval process takes between 3-4 weeks, therefore it is crucial that you get the process started as soon as possible.
