Our Values in Action

Telemundo Dallas Highlights DISD Spanish Teachers at Cigarroa

We're off to a great September!

Team, we had an amazing second week. Christina Golden said that she walked the building to help support a sense of urgency and bell-to-bell instruction on Thursday at 2:30 PM and she was all smiles as she confirmed that from end-to-end and top-to-bottom, kids were learning in every classroom! We also further improved our dismissal system, introducing megaphones to dismiss students which will allow us to begin tutoring at 3:00 PM in the fall. Your dedication and high expectations for silence in dismissal aided us with this tweak in the system and we thank you for that. Our students are getting the hang of their Bridges math centers and are eagerly passing through them as they explore and make connections on their own. I'm eagerly anticipating what's in store for our third week of school as we reach the midpoint in what is already an awesome first six weeks period!

Our Executive Director, Tim Hise, will be at Cigarroa all day this Wednesday! His sole purpose is to support our campus as he joins us in our quest for distinctions! He'll observe classrooms, join the fun in PLCs, and participate in our routines to better understand a day in the life of a Cigarroa Cowboy.

Jennifer Mathai and Betty Garcia will begin their inclusion minutes this week! Please adhere to the master schedule!

In addition, our TAs that push into classes to provide interventions will spend Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for in-class interventions. The attendance of every person on staff is super important because this directly affects whether or not our TAs are able to provide in-class interventions and follow their schedule.

Bilingual teachers, please ensure that you are speaking in the correct language of instruction (for example, in English during English Language Arts) and that you are using the correct language of the day. I will announce the language of the day every day during morning announcements.

In the spirit of belonging, please allow any students with a birthday announced during morning announcements to come to the main office to receive their birthday pencil. This is just a little something we can do for them to let them know that they are special people!

Have a restful Labor Day weekend!
